“Yeah, I think I’ve had enough of marriage to last a lifetime,” Grayson replied, before throwing back the whiskey left in his glass in one go.
“Never say never,” Nickolas said.
“I have Max, he’s all I need.” Grayson insisted.
“Max will grow up and leave, what then?” Nickolas asked, even though they’d already had several different versions of this conversation.
“I think I have time,” Grayson replied dryly.
“But, don’t you want more kids. I know Dakota never…”
“Stop,” Grayson interrupted, “I know what you’re trying to do, but just stop, okay. All I need is a nanny, not another husband. Besides, this isn’t about me.”
“Okay. Okay. I hear you.” Nickolas said.
“So, how do we find your omega? Where do we start?” Grayson asked.
“Well, I guess we start at his employee records and go from there, ” Nickolas said sighing. “Fuck. I can’t believe I fucked it up enough to make him bolt.”
“We all make mistakes, but you have a chance to correct your mistake. Besides, you know I never liked Asa, so if you say this omega is the opposite of him. Well, we gotta find him.” Grayson said.
“Is that why you didn’t make the engagement party?” Nickolas asked in a mocking tone.
“Please. No matter how much I was against your arrangement, after what happened with mine, I would never skip your engagement party only for that reason.” Grayson said.
“I know, I know. I’m just fucking with you.” Nickolas said.
“Seriously, though, anything you need. You know in our world, we so rarely get to meet people, who see the man, not the family name, or the money, or all the extra bullshit. But, if you think you have?Man,do everything you can to hold on to it. Fuck what everyone else says. Especially your parents. I wish I had done that, but then I wouldn’t have gotten Max. He’s worth everything. But you have a chance atrealhappiness. So, do whatever you can to get it back. Because trust me, I know what it’s like to live in a sham marriage that sucks everything out of you, and only leaves ashes behind. I don’t know if that would have happened with Asa and you, but I do know if you don’t have to find out, then don’t.” Gray took a deep breath, staring off into space for a moment before adding, “For whatever reason, even if your parents threaten to cut you off, then let them, you have more than enough investments to never work a day in your life. Peace in your marriage, well brother… That’s priceless.”
After that, they both sat there deep in thought. And Nickolas knew he would do whatever it took to get Jai back because Gray was right. He never wanted to look back in regret, and he damn sure didn’t want to live half a life, which was what it would be if he married Asa. It took Jai coming along for him to see that, and he prayed he got a chance to tell him.
He wished he had fucking tried harder to let Jai know, that from the moment he met him, his life was never going to be the same. Because he may have taken a moment to realize it, but Jai was his, his joy… his laughter… Jai was his life, and if he ever got him back, he would spend every day making sure he knew it.
