Jai walked into his alpha’s office. Nothisalpha he corrected himself. He walked into Nickolas’ office on legs that felt like they were weighed down with lead, every step feeling heavier than the last. The feeling of dread stronger with every step he took.

The moment he walked into Nickolas’ office and shut the door, he asked, “Do you have a fiancé?”

Nickolas froze for just a microsecond, but it was enough of an answer. Jai didn’t need verbal confirmation to know that he was living a nightmare. The man who he had fallen in love with – the man he thought of ashisalpha – was engaged to be married to someone else.

His skin felt cold and hot at the same time. The shock was setting in. He wasn’t sure why especially, as a part of him had known it was true from the moment the chatty omega had started talking.

Nickolas was speaking to him, but he felt like he was at the other end of a football field. Jai couldn’t hear a word coming out of the man’s mouth.

Jai was floundering, dizzy from the traumatic information sinking in. For several seconds, he thought he was going to pass out. His alpha was engaged to marry someone else, when he’d made Jai feel like they had a chance at a future.

“You lied to me, and you betrayed your fiancé and made me complicit.” His voice cracked on the last word. Jai was sick with shame and the most terrible sense of hurt and betrayal.
