CHAPTER 3
“We have a problem.” Spirit anxiously said with Rylee on his heels and Gunner’s maharishi with them.
Had Gunner’s dragon not known the other dragon was full of shit, he would have been as concerned as Gunner seemed to be when he looked at him.
“What is it, my dragon?” Gunner asked.
Gods, he loved when Gunner called him that. It always made him feel like more than a maharishi to the great warrior of Heck. He hated the fact that he had to deceive the man, but this couldn’t be helped. It was imperative that he get his soul bond to stop being a dumb shit and start wooing Gordy. He had tried to get Gunner to go, but the man was nothing if not stubborn, and kept saying Pit had forbidden Gunner even trying to hook up with the little doggy shifter.
Staying quiet too long, Spirit quickly said, “We were doing our fly over of the Boulevard and we think the Tiger Sharks are at it again. They’re causing problems at the Beer and Brat.”
Pit pursed his lips, saying, “As much as I would love to rip those fuckers’ heads off, that sounds like a problem for the police in town, not us.”
Shaking his head rapidly, Spirit replied, “I heard some of the humans saying that the Tiger Sharks are saying they won’t stop unless one of the D.O.A. guys gets their pansy asses out there and talks to them.”
With a sigh, Taj said, “I’ll go.”
Rylee rushed to his mate, quickly saying, “No. I think we should send Gunner.”
“Me? Why me?” Gunner asked in confusion.
Thinking as quickly as he could, Gunner’s dragon said, “Because we aren’t a threat. I mean, if Pit or Taj were to go it could be seen as a threat or something. Rylee’s right, it should be us.”
Gunner gave him a peculiar look, “But if they want D.O.A. it would only make sense for Pit or Taj to be the ones to go.”
Rylee started rubbing his hand up and down his mate’s chest and Gunner’s dragon could see that the tactile action the second in command was getting was affecting his train of thought. Huh, who knew mating hormones could be so strong as to cause such a powerful man to become distracted?
“But then Rusty will have to put off what needs to be done for the fire station, and don’t Pit and Taj have to meet with Wiz about what we’re going to need for the new police station tonight?” the dragon said, causing Gunner to keep giving him that same quizzical look.
Rylee ran his hand under Taj’s shirt and ground his cock into Taj’s side, saying in a husky tone, “Gunner’s maharishi is right. That would mean that you wouldn’t be coming to bed until very late tonight. I mean, if you have to go all the way into town and find out what those nasty men want, then come back to meet with Wiz, I might be asleep and never get to see you this evening.”
“My sentience is right, Pit. We need to order those supplies Drake spoke to us about, and see what other things we might need to build onto the new police and fire stations.” Taj replied, holding his mate as still as possible.
Sighing, Pit said, “Fine, I’ll send a few men to go and check it out.”
“Gunner and I could go. We can make a small trip into town and check it out. If there’s a problem we can’t handle, then Gunner can call Pit, and you guys can send reinforcements.”
Spirit quickly said, “I’ll go with them as backup. This way no one is put out in case it’s a wild goose chase.”
Gunner’s maharishi saw Gunner turn to him, and from the look, the dragon knew he wasn’t being very inconspicuous. The two had been together for centuries, and both he and his soul bond knew when the other was hiding something… and that was fine. However, he hoped that Gunner wouldn’t call him on it until they were already at the Bar and Grill.
* * * *
Gunner didn’t know what his dragon was up to, but he knew the damn maharishi was definitely up to something. When he drove into the main street, Poconos Boulevard, everything seemed quiet enough. Hell, Gunner didn’t even see another motorcycle out and about. “I don’t see any threat, Spirit. Are you sure you got the story right?” Gunner asked as he turned into the alley behind Beer and Brats.
“It’s what I was told.” Spirit answered quickly—a little too quickly as far as Gunner was concerned. Something was up and he was starting to think he was being played by both Spirit and his own maharishi.
Gunner couldn’t shake the feeling that something was hinky about all this. He’d felt it since his maharishi had come running in while he was in a meeting with Rusty and his team, saying there was a problem in town that needed looking into. Since when did his dragon fly that far out of Drago? Then for some reason his dragon had stepped forward, saying he and Gunner would go check it out. It was an odd thing, again, considering his maharishi hadn’t wanted to go out of Drago unless it was on an assignment, and the last time that had happened was right before the town hall meeting... the same meeting where Gunner had been enthralled by that sexy little man… the same meeting where he and his dragon had argued for what seemed like hours about Gordy, and had been arguing about ever since.
His maharishi was being far more difficult than Gunner was used to him being. Normally the two of them worked together… were on the same page. However, his damn dragon was adamant about getting to know the man and his dog. Although whether it was because the man himself called to his maharishi, or the fact that all his dragon wanted to do was cuddle the tiny ball of fur, Gunner didn’t know. Gods, his maharishi would go on and on about that tiny Yorkie for hours.
Gunner had no doubt the dog must be adorable, however, the dog couldn’t possibly hold a candle to its owner. Gods knew Gunner thought about everything he wanted to do to the tiny human, but each and every time he considered it, Pit’s warning came to mind, and he knew he had to stay away. It sucked and Gunner knew he needed to stop fantasizing about something that could never happen.“If it were only that easy.”Gunner mentally sighed.
No matter how hard Gunner tried, he couldn’t get Gordy out of his mind. That sexy soft body and those entrancing beautiful shiny-copper eyes were all Gunner could see every time he closed his eyes, causing him to have more than one sleepless night. Fuck, Gunner had jacked off so many times just thinking about him that he was afraid he’d squeeze his dick off soon.
His maharishi was pissed at him. The fucking dragon didn’t like that Gunner would go out looking to get laid when Gordy was right there in Drago. Gunner snorted within his own mind, thinking there was no reason for his maharishi to get pissed. First off, it wasn’t like Gunner had a man waiting for him at home, and second, Gunner could never do it. Oh, he had offers alright. It was just that every fucking time Gunner looked at another man, none of them seemed right… none of them were who he wanted, and the man he wanted was off limits.
“I think we should go inside and check things out,” his maharishi quietly said.
