CHAPTER 6

Gordy stood in the kitchen wringing his hands, scared about what might be happening out there. Gunner had been gone for at least twenty minutes now, and with each tick of the clock, Gordy felt the need to vomit more and more.

“Trust in your mate. He’ll be fine. Remember, the guys are trained for this kind of thing.” Gio said reassuringly. “Cobra said they’re on their way back and should be inside any minute now.”

Nodding, Gordy replied, “I know, it’s just that we just met. I haven’t even gotten the chance to get to really know him. At least you have a mind link and can talk to Cobra and you can even feel if something is wrong. I don’t have that luxury, Gio. What if Gunner is hurt or even his dragon. You know they rush head into danger. The shooter has a gun and it’s hard to fight against that kind of thing.”

When Gio snickered, Gordy rolled his eyes. What a stupid thing to say. “The shooter has a gun” Well, duh shit. However, Gio needed to cut him some slack. “I’m scared for Gunner, Gio. You shouldn’t expect me to be in thinking mode right now.”

Gio gave him a hug, softly saying, “I’m sorry, Gordy. You’re right. I shouldn’t have laughed at you. Let’s just chalk it up to me being nervous too. I know Cobra and I share a link and everything, but he is like a cowboy rushing in guns blazing and no thought to what could happen.”

Gordy snorted, “I guess if I’m going to accept Gunner and his dragon into my life, I’m going to have to get used to this feeling of helplessness.”

“Especially since Gunner gets sent out more than any of the others.” Jude said, unashamedly eavesdropping.

“He does?” Gordy said with wide-eyed panic.

Bren smacked Jude, “Stop scaring him, Jude.” He then looked at Gordy, saying, “Gunner does tend to go out more than the others, but I think it was more so he didn’t have to be in a house full of sex-consumed people that can’t seem to keep their hands off each other no matter they are.”

“Well we do try not to be so bad when Mom is there.” Jude grumbled.

Bren laughed, “True, but your mom’s bingo nights are fair game, and thank the gods she loves it so much she goes at least three times a week.”

Shaking his head, Jude said, “Four. She goes on Monday, Wednesday, FridayandSaturday.”

“No she goes three.” Bren argued.

The two men were going back and forth until Gio shouted, “You’re both right and both wrong!”

Both men stopped talking and turned to Gio, Jude asking, “What do you mean we’re both right and wrong. How can we be right yet be wrong?”

Gio rolled his eyes, saying, “She does go play bingo three times a week, but she meets up with her beau every Saturday.”

“You lie!” Jude gasped.

“No way!” Bren shouted.

Huffing, Gio said, “I don’t lie, and yes it’s true. Cobra, Taco and I were in town, and when we were waiting in the drive through of Taco Bell, we saw Clara walking into that fancy Italian restaurant across from it.”

“Palermo’s?” Bren asked.

“Who the fuck cares which one? Who was the guy?” Jude snapped.

Shrugging, Gio said, “I don’t know, but Cobra wanted to check it out to make sure she was okay, and when we looked in the window, Clara and the man were sitting seriously close, and he was nibbling on Clara’s neck while she wiggled and giggled and shit. It was really uncomfortable to watch.”

“This strange guy was trying to eat my mom?” Jude shouted.

“You know damn well he wasn’t trying to eat her, but he was getting a good taste. After their dinner we followed them… Cobra said it was to make sure she was safe, but I think he was ready to have Taco treat the man like one of those Taco Supremes he loves to eat so much. Anyway, they went to this really nice house and he kept grabbing her butt as she playfully swatted at his hand until they got inside.” Gio explained.

Jude looked at Gio, then turned to Bren, asking, “What do you think they were doing there?”

Bren shook his head, looking just as confused as Jude. Gio laughed, “Seriously? She didn’t get home until four thirty in the morning. I know, because Cobra refused to go to bed until she came in, and kept threatening the man’s death if any harm came to your mom.”

“Maybe they were playing Monopoly? You know how much Mom loves board games, Bren.” Jude said.

Shaking his head, Gio laughed, “I highly doubt she was playing Monopoly. The game of Life maybe if her disheveled look was anything to go by.”

Bren and Jude’s eyes snapped to Gio as Jude growled out. “No!” Shaking his head, Jude hissed, “I will not believe that my mother was out canoodling with another man that isn’t my father.”
