Gunner smiled wider. “You’re welcome.”

“I… if your dragon go… got them for me, do… does that mean he’s my date and not you?” Gordy asked, not understanding. Was Gunner his date or not? If Gunner said it was his maharishi, what the heck would Gordy say to that? Yes, he was a shifter, but it wasn’t like his animal was the one that would date or go into a relationship, and as curious and interested as Gordy might be in the dragon, it didn’t mean he wanted to get intimately involved with the beast. That was just eww.Okay Gordy, now you’re just thinking stupid thoughts.

“No, well, that isn’t completely true. I mean when you get one of us you get both of us. Now, I would have, had I known we had a date, but it seems as if my maharishi worked closely with your best friend, Gio, and some others to make this date happen. He brought the flowers and since he can’t exactly make his presence known, he gave them to me to give to you.” Gunner explained.

“Y… your maharishi? Why would he want us set up?” Gordy asked, much clearer than he should have been under the circumstances. “Y… you don’t even li… like me.”

Gunner’s eyes went wide, “What in the world would give you that impression?”

Swallowing past the huge lump in his throat, Gordy answered, “You were so an… angry after the me… meeting.”

“I was, but not at you.” Gunner quickly said.

Gordy must have shown his disbelief, because Gunner continued, “The moment my maharishi and I set eyes on you, we were enthralled, and wanted nothing more than to get to know you. Pit noticed my interest and warned me off of you.”

Gordy gasped, then slumped when he thought about it. “He’s right. I’m not in the same league as you guys are.” Slowly Gordy went to stand up. “Thank you for the flowers and I’m sorry I brought you out all this way for nothing.”

Gunner gripped Gordy’s hand. “Where are you going? I thought we had a date?”

“But you said Pit warned you away from me?” Gordy said, more in question than statement.

“He did, but I’m my own man, and my maharishi and I really wanted to get a chance to talk with you… get to know you better.” Gunner answered.

“Why?” Gordy asked seriously, not understanding the man sitting there.

Gunner gave Gordy another one of those amazing smiles. “Because, my maharishi and I believe you are our sentience, Gordy. Now, will you please sit down and enjoy a meal with us? We really need to talk.”

Gordy hesitated a moment, then began to sit down. “Sentience? You mean like Gio and Cobra?” Shaking his head, Gordy said, “No way. That can’t be. I mean the fates wouldn’t do that to you.”

Gunner pursed his lips, “Gordy, we are really going to have to work on your self-esteem. There is nothing wrong with you. Now how about we look at the menu and order? That way we can talk while we wait for our meal.”

Slowly Gordy sat down, unsure of what was going on. He knew what a sentience was as Gio had talked almost obsessively about it when he had bonded with Cobra, but there had to be a mistake.

Drawing in a deep breath, Gordy felt his cock harden even more. The luscious scent of sweet potato pie had Gordy almost salivating. He loved sweet potato pie. Nothing was better than the smell of nutmeg and cinnamon.

“My maharishi and I are curious about something. Is there a reason you don’t scent us as your mate? You are a shifter are you not? I mean, normally we know, because our dragon heat will hit one of us, but neither my dragon nor I have experienced any difference, and it is clear you don’t have an issue with the heat, but still we feel the connection.” Gunner said curiously.

“What does my being a shifter have to do with knowing about us being a sentience?” Gordy asked, seriously not understanding.

Gunner tilted his head to the side, “You do know about mates and shifters… right?”

Shaking his head, Gordy replied, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Then again, how would I? Hell, the first time I shifted, I was alone in my room and completely terrified. One second I was a thirteen-year-old kid looking out my window, wishing I had a friend to play games with in my back yard, and the next second the green of the trees and grass along with the colorful flower garden were black and white. I could barely see out the window and the reflection of a Yorkie was looking back at me. I shivered and shook in fear for what seemed like hours, begging to anyone to help me. I must have fallen asleep, because when I opened my eyes again I was back in my human form thinking I had dreamed it all. When I went to my father telling him about my dream, he asked me what I shifted into. I told him and he snorted, “Figures.” He turned away from me, saying something about how I was weak as a human, it would figure I would shift into a pansy-ass dog too, just before he walked out the door.”

“That must have been devastating to hear.” Gunner softly said.

Shrugging, Gordy said, “It wasn’t anything I wasn’t used to. My father and I were never close.

“What about your mother?” Gunner asked.

“My father didn’t allow for her and I to interact much. He kept her close to his side at all times. I did try and talk to her about what happened, and all she said was how disappointed my father was that I turned out like her mother and not him.” Gordy answered.

“What animal was your father?” Gunner asked as he brought his hand up and started rubbing his thumb along Gordy’s wrist.

The touch caused tingles to course through Gordy’s body, and did nothing to help make his hard dick go down. Swallowing hard, Gordy responded, “He shifted into a rottweiler and mom was a Doberman. Needless to say, I didn’t shift around them. I was always afraid my dad would eat me or something.”

Gunner continued to caress Gordy’s hand, asking, “So what did they tell you about being a shifter?”

Shaking his head, Gordy replied, “Nothing. We never discussed it after that day.
