Della froze and Jack reached for his phone. When the call was answered he said, “Need back up now.”He gave the person on the other end of the call her address. He then replaced the phone into his jacket pocket.Grabbing his gun from his back holster, he motioned for Della to stay quiet by putting his finger over his lips.

Della blinked at the gun but she nodded at his signal as she stared at the door.

Bucky was still going crazy while snarling now.

Snake turned the handle quietly to open the door slowly.

Then suddenly, Bucky surged through the opening and out into the darkness.

A few minutes later, they heard a scream and a scuffle then rushing footsteps racing down the street.

Snake whistled sharply and Bucky returned. The dog took one look at Snake and went over to Della’s side immediately.

Snake stepped outside and saw the remains of a leather cut in the lamplight a few feet away.He walked over slowly and looked down.He growled softly at the sight of blood he found. He reached for the piece of leather on the sidewalk. When he looked closer he saw one of the patches on it.

A small, smirking red devil and a name:Zapper.

Now, he knew Jesse had found his sister. He crushed the leather in his hands and then turned to walk back to the apartment he’d just left.He closed and locked the door as he stared at Della.Wordlessly, he held out the leather patch.

Della stared at it then she took the patch and trembled. She snapped her head up as she looked very pale now.“He found me, didn’t he?”

Snake nodded briefly.“He may have found you, but he won’t get close to you.The Misfits have your back darlin and we don’t lose the people we care about.”

Della stumbled forward.

Snake wrapped his arms around her, kissed the top of her head and assured her, “I’ve got you now, you hear me?Jesse won’t touch you.”

Chapter Four

Della snuggled intohim and she realized that she did finally feel safe for the first time in years. But she knew if she stayed with him she could be putting him and his friends in danger as well.

Looking up at him, she tried to talk him into some sense again, “Maybe I should just leave town.I don’t want anyone else to get hurt by these demons.”

Snake’s arm tightened around her.“You don’t have to run anymore. We can keep you safe and end this once and for all.You can’t run and pray your brother or his fellow miscreants don’t find you and puts a bullet in your back. That’s not something I can accept. You deserve so much better than what Jesse has in mind for you.You didn’t tell him to join this gang and you didn’t make promises you couldn’t keep.Jesse did that all on his own.He let you down, not the other way around. He should have protected you and your mom.”

Della nodded.“I couldn’t believe what he did but I heard the words out of his mouth. He didn’t even apologize for saying them, instead he bragged about it.I was supposed to guarantee his way in.Why?I mean he had to give me to them to join? How sick is that? His leader was there and he was looking at me like I was his dinner. And that’s what made me run.He was a creep and I knew he wouldn’t treat a woman very good.I knew I couldn’t let that happen so that night I took what I could carry and I left the house I grew up in.And I didn’t look back.I didn’t have a car so I had to walk. And I don’t regret leaving him but that had been my home since I was a little kid.”
