Of course they own the lodge that we are about to ski and sled in.

Tillie was not lying. I don’t know who did the hiring for Voss Winter Lodge & Resort, but they hired staff like they were casting for a fashion house. Everyone was gorgeous. Contoured cheekbones there, pink lips here, a firm round ass walking around there.

Tillie turns to me and sends me a wink as an employee gets her fitted for a helmet.

“You’re drooling. Close your mouth and stop acting desperate,” Roman states.

I stare up at him. “What’s your problem?”

“I don’t have a problem,” he replies.

“Roman?” Tessa calls out. She is sitting on a bench trying to put on her boots. “Hi, can you help me?”

I want to shout, “Bitch, help yourself,” but I keep quiet, watching Roman kneel down to fix her boots.

Tessa throws her hair over her shoulder as Roman straps her boots tighter. Whatever she said made him laugh. I am not a jealous person, but I almost walk up to them and grab Roman byhis arm. But I am not his real woman, so I hold it in. Tillie walks across with a big smile on her face.

“Who is he?” I ask, flicking my head to the man she was talking to.

“His name is Giovanni,” Tillie says. Giovanni looks back at us and winks at Tillie.

“I think he wants you.” I chuckle at Tillie.

Tillie touches her hair. “If he wants a damn dog, I will bark.”

I cackle, forgetting where I was. Both Tillie and I stand, holding onto each other.

Giovanni walks up to us, with his sculpted muscles straining under his thermal T-shirt. His winter jacket is over his arm.

A man with dark brown hair and the cutest dimples comes up to me. “I am Gorgio. Are you ready to go?”

I look across to see if Roman is seeing this, but he is still talking to Tessa.

“Yes, I am.” I smile up at Gorgio. “Sure.”

I didn’t even bother acknowledging Roman. When Gorgio puts his arm out for me to hold, I look back to see if Roman is watching. He isn’t. I put my arms into his. “Teach me everything.”

Gorgio doesn’t miss a beat. “With pleasure.”

Tillie and Giovanni are so wrapped up with each other that they don’t see us pass by them.

“So tell me about yourself, Gorgio.” My stomach feels funny. I know I have no right to feel hurt or jealous. It’s just that Roman is so hot and cold. I can’t keep up.

But I am not supposed to keep up, am I?No, my brain says. Now only if my heart would listen.

I laugh when Gorgio laughs, even though I wasn’t paying attention to anything he was saying.

She is pissing me off. First, this morning her phone was ringing off the hook. The name ‘Nicholas’ appeared on her phone. She grabbed it and headed into the bathroom. I could hear his muffled voice through the bathroom door.

I wanted to shout, “Who the hell is Nicholas? And why the hell is his voice so heavy?”

Since then, I’ve tried to keep myself in check.

“I never thought I would see you in love since us, Romy,” Tessa says.

I stare into her eyes, waiting for that familiar tug that always hits my heart. I feel nothing.
