Am I crazy? I’m CEO of my own company! What the hell am I doing here?
No. I’m going to end this,I think as I yank the door open and stride inside. This stops now.
The clerk, a bored girl who is clearly on something, glances at me and nods down the hall.
“Um, excuse me?”
“Room 115. He said you’d be coming.” She hands me a keycard and goes back to her phone.
This cannot be happening. It’s like I’ve stepped into some fever dream—like my body is on autopilot. Thousands of thoughts race through my mind as my two thousand-dollar heels scrape down the stained maroon carpet.
Muffled sounds come from the rooms as I pass. Television, partying, shouting…even moaning…
My hands are trembling when I reach the room.
115.
I press the card to the sensor and hear the door unlock. Quickly, I open it and rush inside, closing it behind me.
“Hello?” I call out. No answer. “Blake?”
My heart is racing as I glance into the bathroom. It’s empty. So is the bedroom. The entire room is empty. It’s just me. He’s not here.
I should leave. This is ridiculous.
But I don’t. I slowly take a seat on the edge of a chair in the corner. My throat is dry, and I swallow hard, tapping my foot impatiently.
Where is he?
Minutes pass. I’m just about to get up and leave when I hear the door click.
My heart skips a beat. I hear male footsteps enter the room and the door close again, followed by the sound of the deadbolt.
“Blake?” I call out, my voice breaking.
No answer. The sound of footsteps approaching.
I take a deep breath as panic starts to set in. This was a terrible idea. What was I thinking?
I see his shoe first—worn leather, barely acceptable for the office. Then he steps around the corner.
His stern eyes find me and examine me with amusement, like heknewI would come tonight, even if I didn’t.
I bite my lower lip to keep my jaw from trembling.
“You look nice,” he says simply.
“This is not happening.” I shake my head and get to my feet. “Do you know how unacceptable this is? To keepmewaiting?”
Blake smirks, chuckling. “Right, I forgot. Miss powerful boss lady waits for no one. Everything happens according to her schedule.”
My jaw drops. I don’t even know what to say.
He’s gorgeous in his arrogance, his hubris. It radiates off him like a physical touch, causing me to look down at his shoes, away from his eyes.
“This…your behavior…it’s unacceptable.”
“Oh, it is?”
