When he was finished, he pulled my underwear back up my thighs and let my dress fall back down to cover my ass. He turned me around and leaned against the door, standing beside me. One hand on my stomach, one brushing the hair out of my face, he stared at me with the biggest smile on his face. “I’ve been waiting so long for this day.”

“Our wedding?” I asked with a smile.

“Getting to call you my wife,” he said, grabbing my hand and opening the door. “Come on, before anybody gets suspicious.”

We walked back out to head down the hallway. When we passed the women’s restroom, Victor and Melissa walked out together, Melissa’s hair ruffled so badly that it looked as if she wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that she and Victor had just hooked up.

Her face turned bright red when she saw us. “Dad,” she whispered. “We were, uh …” She stumbled over her words, as Michael narrowed his eyes at them, raising one dark brow. “We were just—”

I hooked my arm around hers and pulled her toward the ballroom. “Freshening up,” I said to save her from the embarrassment of admitting it out loud.

I pulled her ahead, and Michael and Victor fell behind.

“What happened toI don’t like Victor?” I teased, throwing her words right back at her.

She playfully rolled her eyes at me, cheeks still flaming. “Oh, stop it. You know I have this entire time.” She looked at her feet when we walked back into the ballroom, where everyone was chatting. “But you know, I fucked up big time. We might’ve gotten together, but I have to make up for a lot of shit. Nothing will be normal between us for a long time.”

I gave her a soft smile back. “I guess that’s life … but, hey, you’ll get there one day. You’ll get the wedding of your dreams with the man of your dreams. I promise it’ll happen.” Because … I’d never thought it’d happen to me, but it had.

Life had a certain way of making things better when you were sure it had gone to absolute shit.

CHAPTER18

MIA

“Inever thought I’d spend Thanksgiving Day at a bar in Greece,” Michael said from across the table.

Sitting on a rooftop bar that had a breathtaking view of the Acropolis, I sipped on my water with orange and stared at Michael’s sculpted face as the candle flickered off it and made it glow. “I never thought I’d spendanyday in Greece.”

We had been on our honeymoon for about five days now, and it was everything I’d ever wanted. We’d traveled around to see a bunch of towns, ancient structures, where the original Olympics had been held, Delphi, and so many other beautiful places.

I was glad I hadn’t pushed the wedding back. It was great to get out before the babies came. I knew that once they did, I wouldn’t have any time at all.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about us and how we’re going to raise three kids,” Michael said, sitting across from me. “I want to spend more time at home with them, and I know you need to be able to get to school and labs without them on your hip.”

I reached over to brush my thumb over his knuckles. “And?”

“And I asked my boss for a work-from-home position starting in January until I can get my own structural design company started up.”

“Michael, that’s wonderful!” I sat up. “I didn’t know you wanted to start your own company.”

He gave me a breathtaking smile from across the table. “Who doesn’t want to spend as much time as they can with their family and build a life for them?”

“Last night,”Michael said to me, his hand sprawled over my stomach as I ate baklava on our balcony in Karpathos, overlooking the ocean. After a week of staying in Athens and a couple other ancient cities I’d always wanted to see, we were on a quiet island, just … relaxing.

It felt good to get away from all the drama for once, and this vacation was everything that I could have ever asked for. I had Michael, three babies on the way, and an upcoming career in psychology.

Michael’s phone buzzed on the table beside us. Michael ignored it, telling me that he just wanted to relax, but then my phone started buzzing a few moments later. I glanced down at it, seeing Melissa’s name pop up on the screen. She hadn’t messaged us at all these past two weeks. I knew she wanted to give us space.

This must’ve been important.

After handing the phone to Michael, he put it on speaker.

“Is my dad there, Mia?” Melissa said over the phone, her voice shaky. She let out a long grunt and whimpered, sounding like she was in pain.

Michael sat up, leaned over on his forearms, muscles flexing. “I’m here.”

“I think that I’m having contractions. I tried to ignore it, but I … they’re coming faster and faster.”
