“Say nite-nite.” The man’s trigger finger twitches and before he kills the kid, I fire.
As the pistol flies, another man enters from the backroom with his automatic weapon pointed. Slate takes him out and I drop to my knees. Hugging the toddler’s face to my chest with my left, my right hand grabs a knife from my boot and cuts her mom free.
“Can you walk?” I hand the little one to my pal and put an arm around the bruised woman’s waist.
She nods and manages a few wobbly steps. “Yes.”
“Hurry.” I rush with her down the stairs where already, the Patten boss is buckling the girl in the back seat.
“Get them to safety. I’ll wait here for the cops.” I pound on the hood, then step in front. “Hold up. Shit. I need a bodycam.”
He hands me his ball cap. “It’s in the Patten Logo.”
