Chapter 8

Lucky

Take her home? That’s exactly what I need to do, then walk away. As much as I’d like to taste what she’s been offering, a sheila like Calliope deserves a better bloke than me.

The wind gusts, visibility goes to zero, and our SUV skids on the icy road. Despite weather reports to the contrary, the storm off the coast intensified during the concert.

“Fuck.” My buddy, Suds, slows, pulls to the curb, and waits for the whiteout to disappear before starting back down the highway. “What’s Google say about our ETA?”

“We’ll be there in about an hour.” My phone shows accidents everywhere as large flakes clump and fall.

Suds follows a pair of red taillights while me and Callie silently stare ahead into the worsening storm. She sits alone in the back seat and hasn’t said boo since I scolded her. Maybe my tone was a little harsh but throw me a bone. She needs to know that the world is a dangerous place for wealthy women with predictable habits.

When we exit the highway onto a local road, she stirs. “I’m guessing you guys will take the earrings and go?”

“If you’re scared, I could stay.” I’m half-joking but Suds shoots me a look that says, are you out of your fucking mind?

“No, I’ll be fine.” Callie sighs. “Know what? My mother needs a new hobby.”

I couldn’t agree more but don’t have time to elaborate because we’ve arrived at her apartment.

“I’ll see her in.” I hand Suds the velvet pouch and jump out, fully intending to help Callie maneuver through the drifting snow.

In the lead, she trips on her long dress and falls flat. I lift her, find her face, then set her down in the lobby. Two strong magnets, our eyes connect and when she licks her lower lip, I lean in for a taste.

Dammit. Suds pounds on the horn.

Yeah, yeah. I know.No fooling around with the client.

“Bloody hell!” With my right hand at her back, I bang on the elevator’s up button with my left.

Meanwhile, big blue eyes go wide and her mouth turns down making me feel like a complete ass.

“Don’t look at me like that. Suds is right and giving me fair warning. You’re so bloody irresistible, you could get me fired.”

“Sorry.” The tops of her cheeks go bright red. Damned if it only makes me want her more.

Inside the elevator, I take a deep breath. There’re just a few minutes of torture left, then I’ll say goodbye. By morning, I’ll be back in New York, she’ll go on with her life, and...

Her arm reaches across my lower half and presses on the red button labeled with a white STOP.

Oh, fook me.Those gorgeous eyes focus on my lips and slides her fingers under my silk shirt.

A better man might’ve turned her down but she’s been a cock tease all evening. She needs to know who she’s messing with. I lean in until my mouth is inches away but our lips don’t touch. This has to be her decision.

On tiptoes, her hands go to the back of my neck, and she tugs me to her. A chill runs down my back as I pull her lower half to mine.

She feels my hard want, moans, and arches her back. The coals of her desire have burst into flames so I take the kiss deeper. Her eyes pop open, the dark centers of her eyes widen and her nails dig into my flesh. I crush my lips to hers and she responds with equal enthusiasm, mouth open for more.

Bloody hell, she shakes with hunger as she holds me tight to her body, her pert breasts pressed into my chest. This is no mere kiss. It’s heroin and it shoots through my veins until I’m so high on her I can’t stop.

I may not have a job tomorrow but I don’t care. I exit the elevator and rush her to her apartment door. Shaking, she inserts a key while I wait, an animal ready to pounce.

When she motions me into her kitchen, I step through the portal, knowing neither one of us will ever be the same. I hold her, pulling up on the endless folds of her dress until I find her sweet firm behind and squeeze.

Her breath hitches and breasts swell, almost popping out of her costume.

Stop, stop, stop.A few remaining brain cells fire at the sound of a car horn outside.
