She looks exhausted, but she forces out a smile. “Like a woman who just popped out a baby and lived to tell the tale. Thank you guys for coming.”
“Of course, lady, we wouldn’t have missed it.” Voorhees kisses her on the forehead, then takes a step back so I can do the same.
The second the baby’s placed back in Drac’s arms, he softens, whatever was bothering him long since forgotten.
“Damn, I didn’t think it would hit me this hard,” he exclaims, holding his son with so much love and admiration. Then helooks over at Giovanni, beaming with pride. “We make some pretty fantastic kids, Amber.”
She nods, cuddling with Giovanni who’s crawled up in her bed. “We really do.”
“How long do you have to stay in here?” I ask her, knowing they have a lot of work and late nights ahead of them.
“A couple of days. Nothing too bad. Speaking of which, we have a question for you guys.”
“Sure, what’s up?”
“Well, there’s some people in Italy I’d like to see again, and introduce Eddie and Gage to. We were thinking about it, and we’d love to renew our vows in Italy with some of our best friends by our sides. Would you guys be interested in joining us?”
Voorhees is already jumping from side to side. “Heck yeah we would! Who doesn’t love a destination wedding?”
Amber giggles. “We don’t want anything to big. Just you guys, Phantom, Autumn, our mothers, and of course Mindy.”
Mindy’s eyes widen. “Me?”
Amber nods. “Yes, girl! We want you there too.”
“But you guys just met me.”
“It doesn’t matter. You’re like family to us now, and we’d love for you to be there.”
Mindy’s head swivels my way. “Are you okay with this?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
She shrugs. “Oh, I don’t know, maybe because of the whole Mosely thing going on.”
Drac moves to stand next to Amber. “You’ll be safer in Italy than you will be at your shop, Mindy. But it’s okay if you don’t want to come, we just figured it be the best way to keep you protected.”
She smiles. “You guys really know how to make a girl feel safe, but I don’t know. I really don’t have the money to make that kind of trip.”
“Don’t worry about it,” I grumble, low enough so she can hear. “I got you covered.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely!” she meets my hated gaze, both of us thinking about the last few nights we’ve shared in the bedroom together.
She blushes, that cute adorable red, blossoming over her cheeks.
“Tell me you’ll come, Mindy. I know we just met, but I’d love to have you there as one of my bridesmaids.”
Mindy turns to face her, all smiles and sunlight. “I wouldn’t miss it, Amber.”
Amber grins, then her smile quickly shifts to one of pain. “Hey guys, I hate to do this, but I’m not feeling that great. I think I need to take a nap. Do you mind heading out so I can get some sleep?”
“Of course!” we all say in unison.
“Get some sleep, little mama, you’re gonna need it,” Voorhees informs her, just as he bends down to give her another forehead kiss. “We’ll see you guys when you come home.”
Her mouth slightly twitches upward, but she’s already half asleep, the toll of giving birth already weighing on her shoulders.
