“Do you want to ride with them?” Brooke asked, not lifting her head. She could hear the steady beat of Anna’s heart like this.
“It’s completely up to you, Honey.”
Brooke thought about it for a moment.“I kind of feel like we should let them have their moment.”
“That’s a good point,” Anna said in agreement, her attention still solidly on her book.“They’re staying there at the castle tonight, you know that right?” Anna asked.
Brooke shook her head.“No, how do you know that?”
Anna tilted her head to the side.“When you and Nate went out last night, Mel and I had a nice talk.”
“Oh?” Brooke asked, propping herself up, her elbows on either side of Anna’s ribs. She ignored the wave of desire that crashed through her body that came from hovering over Anna like this.
“Mhm,” Anna answered, not divulging any more secrets. She was clearly not going to add anything else, so Brooke decided to settle back down on top of her.
“Where are you in the book?” Brooke asked, trying to recall the specifics of Delilah and Claire’s love story.
Anna nearly dropped the book in her hands. She blushed immediately.
Brooke let out a low chuckle.“You’re reading smut aren’t you?”
Anna’s blush deepened and she tried to wiggle down lower in the bed to hide from embarrassment. Brooke decided to not help her out at all and instead actively worked against letting Anna shrink down beneath the covers.“Don’t move, you’re rather comfortable,” Brooke teased, trying to reference back to Anna sleeping on top of her on the couch. She didn’t let her thoughts linger on the fact that she was using Anna’s chest as a pillow while Anna was reading more than a little bit of spice if she remembered that book correctly.
Only her essentially pinning Anna to the bed left, Anna staring up at her with eyes that Brooke could only describe as hungry. Brooke swallowed nervously, very aware that she was hungover, and that they were going to have to get up and get ready for Nate and Mel’s wedding soon, whether they were going to ride with them or not. Anna must have realized it at the same time because the space between them crackled with an energy that was without a doubt spicier than Anna’s book.
Brooke leaned forward, not letting herself second guess herself, trusting that Anna would tell her to stop. Anna melted into the kiss, her book quickly abandoned and pushed off the edge of the bed, startling them both with a dull thud as it hit the floor. They stared at each other, both clearly trying to decide what they did and didn’t have time for. Brooke finally cracked. As much as she wanted this, she didn’t want to have to rush out the door after it happened. The room would also ideally be a little less bright from the morning sunlight, and Brooke would have showered the night before. Also, in a perfect world, she would have at least confirmed out loud that she actually had feelings for Anna. She was beginning to trust that all of these kisses and all of these looks meant something more to Anna, too, but still it would be nice to hear before they ripped their clothes off of each other.
Anna must have been able to sense Brooke's hesitancy because her next kiss was sweeter, less passionate and more reassuring. Brooke pulled back, worried that Anna might be disappointed, but instead Anna looked all too pleased with the fact that she could just lean up and kiss Brooke whenever she wanted.
Anna bit her bottom lip, clearly trying to resist the urge to say something.
“What?” Brooke asked, suddenly worried she had sleep crusted around her eyes or worse, a bad case of morning breath.
Anna looked quite shy, which was rather unlike her. She hummed a bit as she mustered up the courage to say whatever was on her mind.“Nate and Mel are staying at the castle tonight,” Anna repeated, her face patient and hopeful.
Brooke stared at her, trying to find the point she was making. Then it dawned on her, they would have Nate and Mel’s flat all to themselves. No one could interrupt them tonight. No one would wake them with loud knocks in the morning. A small smile tugged at the corner of Brooke's lips.“You’re right. That’s a very good point.” Brooke leaned down and pressed a kiss to Anna’s cheek. She let herself enjoy the feeling of their bodies being this close, pressed together for one more moment before she sighed.“I should probably shower. Try to wash this hangover off.”
Anna’s smile was so beautiful and so perfect, that Brooke wished that she had a camera. A real one, not the one on her phone, but a real one, something that had to be manually manipulated into capturing Anna’s beauty exactly as she saw it.“Probably,” Anna agreed, though she did nothing to help untangle them.“Are you excited to rock a tux?”
Brooke shrugged as she slowly pushed herself up and off of Anna, fighting a little less than gracefully with the sheets and comforter to get out of the bed.“They’re really not that much different than a suit. It’s not like I’m wearing one with tails.”
“Can I watch you tie your bowtie?” Anna asked, her eyes following Brooke as Brooke moved to unzip her suitcase.
“Sure, I don’t see why not.” Brooke froze, realizing that she wasn’t actually in possession of the bowtie she was supposed to wear tonight.“You have it, right?”
Anna let out a little giggle as she rolled out of bed towards her side of the room. Brooke looked away, painfully aware of just how bare Anna’s thighs were.“I do. Do you want it now?” Anna asked.“It’ll give away the color of my dress,” she added.
Brooke thought about it for a second. She was going to learn the color of Anna’s dress soon regardless of whether or not she was given her tie. It was really a matter of how she learned the color of Anna’s dress. Would she rather see it on Anna’s body? Her pulse raced at the thought. She would. The easy, honest answer was that she would rather wait.“I can be patient,” she whispered, not adding the rest, not letting herself admit to wanting to see Anna’s dress first.
“Alright,” Anna said with a small, but incredibly happy smile. Anna scooped her book up from the floor and settled back into her warm spot.“How about you go shower and maybe we can get ready together today?”
Brooke’s mouth went dry. She forced herself to nod in agreement. Of course she and Anna could get ready together. She had no idea what all that entailed, but she was more than happy to find out. She simply needed to make it through her shower and then let Anna lead the way.
Brooke hustled through the monotonous task of her shower, willing her body and hair to rinse faster. When she was finally out, she dried off as quickly as possible and realized that she hadn’t really thought to bring anything in here with her. She hadn’t even worn pajamas the night before that she could just slip back on. No, instead she had fallen asleep in her underclothes. She sighed, mentally berating herself as she wrapped her towel around her waist as tightly as it would go. She made sure that nothing was showing that she wasn’t ready for Anna to see before she pushed back into the little hallway and knocked tentatively on their bedroom door.
“You’re good, B,” Anna called out.
Brooke opened the door just a crack and stuck her head through.“So, I forgot clothes,” she said, feeling her own face and neck heat up in embarrassment.
