Brooke let out a rough laugh and shook her head.“You didn’t. I’m grateful that you told me.” She licked her lips hoping that her next sentence wouldn’t be too incredibly forward.“May I offer you a big comfy t-shirt?”
Anna’s face split into a wide grin and she finally found Brooke's eyes with her own. Brooke watched as the deep brown of Anna’s eyes softened. Anna wrapped her arms around Brooke's neck and leaned in to kiss her. These kisses were different, less frenzied and desperate, more charged with emotions. She pulled Brooke closer, wrapping her legs around Brooke's back, sighing happily as Brooke’s hands slid up her calves.
When they broke apart for air, Anna spoke again, softer this time, her voice almost reverent.“You’re kind of wonderful.”
Brooke just shook her head. She wasn’t wonderful, not really. She just didn’t want this moment to come to an end. She’d give Anna the button down she was currently wearing if it meant they got to keep kissing.
Anna traced down Brooke’s jaw with her pointer finger and let her thumb swipe gently across Brooke’s bottom lip. If Anna’s lips were anything to go off of, she could assume her lips were swollen and probably a bit smeared with Anna’s lipstick. Brooke had never wanted to devour something or someone so badly in her entire life. Devour was probably the wrong word, but in all the languages Brooke knew, she couldn’t think of a better one. She wanted to worship Anna, to give her anything and everything. It felt fitting to be on her knees at her feet.
Anna’s eyes fluttered shut like she was making a massive decision.“Just don’t look?” she whispered.
Brooke felt herself flood her boxers.“I won’t,” she whispered, pressing a kiss to Anna’s lips before kissing across Anna’s cheek and over to her neck. A soft moan left Anna’s lips as Brooke sucked on her pulse point. Anna’s fingers threaded through Brooke's hair, holding her in place. Brooke ran the tip of her tongue down Anna’s throat, relishing in the sharp gasp and heavy rise and fall of Anna’s chest.
There was a knock on the door that jarred them both apart. Brooke rocked back and up to her feet reflexively, putting a few feet of space between them. Her adolescent trauma mixed with the fragility of her moment with Anna ripped through Brooke's veins. A look of horror settled on her face as suddenly she was the embarrassed one. Anna straightened her dress, but honestly she just looked more concerned for Brooke than anything.
Another knock split the tension in the room.“B?” Nathaniel whisper-yelled through the door.
“Nate?” Brooke responded.
“Yeah! It’s me.” Nate paused.“Can I come in real quick?”
Brooke wiped her face with her hands before looking desperately at Anna for the proper response. Anna at this point just looked incredibly amused and was clearly trying to stifle a laugh.
Anna answered for them.“Yeah, Nate, you’re good.”
Nate opened the door, his face full of excitement. He must have immediately sensed the sexual tension in the room because his face suddenly mirrored Brooke’s in embarrassment levels.“Oh, sorry. Sorry. I tried to catch you as soon as we got home. I uhhhh…” He looked at Brooke with a sheepish grin.“I was actually going to see if you’d like to join me and some of my friends tonight. We’re doing a little Bachelor party round two now that Danny has arrived.” He rubbed the back of his neck, something he had done even as a little kid.“It’s going to be low key. No strippers or anything. Just drinks at a pub down the street.”
Brooke still hadn’t caught her breath. One second she and Anna were definitely about to have sex, to her life’s greatest trauma being triggered, to her little brother wanting to spend the night before his wedding hanging out with her and his closest friends.“Uh?” Brooke had no way of knowing how to appropriately answer his request. Her eyes flashed to Anna for guidance? To feel calm?
Anna just smiled at her and nodded.“You should go, Honey. I’ll be here when you get back.” She shot Brooke a less than subtle wink.
It was oddly reassuring. Brooke knew that wink meant thatthiswould be here when she got back. Obviously, Nate wouldn’t think that this was anything new. He had no way of knowing he’d just interrupted what was surely about to be the best night of Brooke’s life. They were meant to be an established couple, not… whatever it was that they were.
Nate let out a bark of a laugh that reminded Brooke surprisingly of herself.“Anna, I promise to have your girlfriend back to you after just a few drinks.”
Brooke cleared her throat.“It’s okay?” She asked again, not wanting to leave Anna for one second right now.
Anna nodded.“I insist.”
Brooke nodded.“Okay, yeah.” She looked around the room. She had pushed her own suit jacket off Anna’s body over by the door. She blushed as she bent down to pick it up.“I’ll be back soon?” she said, though it was definitely a question, not a statement.“Um?” She stepped back across the room and pressed a gentle kiss to Anna’s lips.“Sorry?”
Anna just laughed.“It’s fine, B. We’re literally here for your brother.” She pulled Brooke back in for another chaste kiss.
“Sorry, Anna!” Nate called out, stepping back into the hallway.“Thanks for letting me steal her from you.”
“Um, text me?” Brooke said, pulling Anna’s phone out of the inside pocket of her suit and handing it to her. Though what Anna might text her about she had no idea. She really just felt terrible about leaving this moment like this.
Anna nodded, her smile radiant and playful.“I will, Honey-B. Also, you might want to wash your face before you leave the house for real.” She bit her bottom lip and gestured around Brooke's lips.
Brooke blushed even deeper and let out a groan.“Thanks, Darling. I shall return.” Brooke closed the bedroom door behind her as she exited the room and pulled on her jacket.
“Sorry, B,” Nate said, clearly holding back a laugh.
Brooke sighed heavily.“No, no, let’s have it. Come on.”
Nathaniel cracked up.“I cock blocked you. I feel bad, but also like this was some weird right of passage that I missed out on when we were young.”
Brooke didn’t take his sentiment anywhere sour. She took it for what it was, having an awkward, but admittedly funny moment with her little brother.“Okay, okay. Let me wash my face real quick before we head out.”
