Brooke kissed Anna on her temple reassuringly. “It’s fine, Darling.”
“But yes, to answer your question, that is a fact.” Anna buried her face in Brooke’s neck so that no matter how far Brooke leaned back, she wouldn’t be able to see Anna’s face.
“It’s true for me, too,” Brooke said, her voice low and hopefully soothing.
“Oh my God,” Nick said. “Just go fuck already. I’m not doing this for three hours. It was funny in theory, but your little thirsty whispers are killing me. When you get like six months in and you stop walking around like little blissed out sex zombies, we can have a movie night.”
Brooke wanted to protest, she really did. But Anna had already clambered off of her and was holding her hand out waiting to help Brooke up. She should say, ‘no, we’ll behave. I’m sorry, Nicholas,’ but the look in Anna’s eyes just made her nod twice and get to her feet. She awkwardly shuffled across the living room to get her bag by the front door.
“Sorry, Nick,” she offered.
“Yeah, yeah,” Nick muttered. “We’ll argue for custody of Anna’s attention in the morning. Be gone with you both.”
After four glorious hours, Brooke and Anna emerged from Anna’s bedroom in search of the pizza Anna had ordered for movie night. They hadn’t expected Nick to still be awake. It was nearly three in the morning. But there he was, still in his arm chair, nearly an hour intoThe Two Towers. If they had known he was still up, they probably would have put on more than baggy T-shirts and loose boxers that were apparently Anna’s favorite thing to sleep in. She had thrown a pair at Brooke when they had decided food was more important than round seven.
“Hello, lovebirds. Glad to see neither of you are in a coma,” he called out, though he didn’t turn his attention from the screen.
Brooke suspected that he was worried they wouldn’t have bothered to dress appropriately to leave the bedroom.
“How was the movie?” Anna asked as she shuffled into their kitchen and opened the pizza boxes. Neither Anna nor Brooke waited to hear his response. They had worked up a serious appetite and could smell the pizza already.
Anna had ordered one pizza that was half cheese and half pepperoni and another that was half pineapple and ham and half meat lovers. “I should have asked what kind of pizza you like.” Anna blushed.
Brooke’s eyes followed the blush as it crept down Anna’s neck. She was so in love. She couldn’t keep her hands off Anna it seemed as one of her hands wound its way around Anna’s back, pulling her into a side hug. “I’m boring with pizza.”
Anna gasped. “No, I don’t believe you.”
That got a chuckle out of Brooke. “Are you teasing me?”
“Absolutely, Honey-B.” Anna leaned up and pressed a kiss to Brooke’s cheek. “Cheese, or pepperoni?”
“Pepperoni,” Brooke answered.
Anna slid a few pieces of the pepperoni pizza onto a paper plate and handed it over to Brooke. Brooke waited while Anna filled her own plate with the pineapple and ham pizza.
“I like learning these little things about you.” Brooke was cataloguing the way Anna stacked her pizza slices like a chaotic little gremlin, but she had to admit that Anna’s stack did look rather sturdy. She kept hers fanned out.
“Like what kind of pizza I like?” Anna asked, smiling up at her.
Brooke just nodded. She wanted to know everything. Even the pizza place Anna had ordered from mattered to her.
“Me too,” Anna beamed. “I can’t wait to learn every little thing about you.” She nodded towards the living room, grinning happily.
Anna lowered herself slowly back down on the couch and used her free hand to cover her legs with the blanket that Brooke had selected earlier. It was as if they had never left the room to go fornicate. Brooke blushed, but Nick seemed unfazed and Anna, well Anna was practically glowing. Brooke hadn’t had a roommate since her freshman year of college. She wasn’t sure what roommate etiquette was, but she and Anna hadn’t seemed to violate it.
They ate their pizza in relative silence while watching the second movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It had been a long time since Brooke had watched these. While she absolutely preferred the way her night had turned out, she would find time to rewatch them soon.
Nick sighed dreamily, “Orlando Bloom was so hot in these.”
“He’s hotter as Will Turner,” Anna said easily.
Brooke blushed. “Kiera Knightly though.”
Anna giggled at that. “Really? She’s hot, don’t get me wrong. I just hadn’t expected you to admit it.”
“I can say it when I think women are attractive.” Brooke felt the tips of her ears get hot. “I believe I drunkenly told you that you were the most attractive woman I know.”
Anna let out a rough laugh. “Oh my God, I stand corrected. You totally did.”
