Evan had been hurt when his secret had been revealed.
Nix didn’t understand politics. A small group of paranormals that had power within the government decided that they were done hiding. They made the decision for every paranormal in existence, which didn’t seem fair to him.
With gained practice, Nix was able to sit on the ground in front of the fire even with his hands tied. He didn’t know how long Evan, or really his dragon, would be.
Nix grabbed Evan’s pack and pulled it closer. He rifled through the pack until he found a bag of pumpkin seeds that his Daddy had stashed. At least his fingers still worked. He opened the bag and began to eat. Nix snacked as outside the cave entrance the snow started to fall.
Since he had time, Nix thought about Aries and Vin back at the house and everything that he had planned for his little brother.
Nix had always called Aries his little brother even if Nix was only a few minutes older. It had been a taunt growing up but now the word little had taken on a new meaning.
As the triplet that was most known as the troublemaker, Nix had taken on that moniker from just trying to make his brothers, his family, and friends happy. His antics had got him into trouble, but he’d also managed to take the attention away from Aries. On ice, Aries loved to be the center of attention, but off ice, his little brother was shy and introverted.
Finding Vin and being introduced to a little lifestyle seemed to suit Aries.
Already Nix saw the difference in the way Aries carried himself. Whether it was on the phone or on camera during or after a game Aries was more confident. It was amazing to witness.
Nix wanted to ensure that his little brother knew that Nix supported Aries and Vin’s special relationship fully. The presents he’d specifically picked up would hopefully show Aries that Nix loved seeing this new side of him.
There was a loud roar that had Nix stumbling to his feet with him nearly faceplanting. He settled himself before rising from the cave. His dragon landed at the same spot that he’d taken off from. Nix took a few steps forward as the dragon peered down at him. Like way far down.
“Hi!” Nix said as he bounced on the tip of his toes. “Did you have a good flight?”
His dragon dipped his head.
Nix wanted to move closer so badly. “That’s good. We should come back before we head home. Give you another chance to spread your wings.”
The dragon lurched forward. The ground vibrated under the dragon’s massive paws until he stopped still a good distance away. He could feel that the dragon was happy with his words. Wow, that bond was real.
“Can I get closer?” Nix asked quietly. He would understand if his dragon wasn’t ready.
His dragon gave him a nod.
“Cool!” Nix didn’t waste any time. He rushed forward until he could feel the coldness from his dragon’s nostrils.
Slowly his dragon lowered his head.
“You are the most beautiful creature that I’ve ever seen.” Lifting his bound hands, Nix ran them across the top of his dragon’s nose. He expected hardness but the bumps that covered his dragon were surprisingly soft. His fingers pressed in and he froze.
His dragon, Evan, bumped against Nix’s chest. It was still Evan but not. Did the dragon have his own name? Nix understood that the dragon had his own identity, but it was still confusing. “Did that hurt?” It would kill him to hurt his dragon.
The dragon bumped him again.
“Uh, I’ll take that as a no.” Nix went back to rubbing his dragon.
The dragon started bumping into him harder until Nix was backing up into the opening of the cave. He got the hint and moved backward. Once he reached the entrance, the dragon used his head to push Nix down.
He went down to his knees and then his ass, which was the best that he could do with his hands still tied. Nix wiggled to get into a more comfortable position and received a huff of cold breath as the dragon lowered himself to the ground just outside the cave.
Nix patted his lap and his dragon laid the tip of his nose on Nix’s knee.
Going back to stroking the dragon, Nix couldn’t believe what was happening. It was like having his very own fantasy novel come to life. Bending forward, he placed a kiss on top of the closest bump he could reach. His. This was his dragon.
A deep rumble vibrated Nix as his dragon made his pleasure known.
“So pretty,” Nix repeated again and again.
The heavy weight on his lap was something that he would have to get used to. Even with his shifter strength, Nix could feel every ounce of weight that the massive creature carried.
