She touched her new locs, and they shimmered with purple glitter as she lifted the long lengths to inspect. “I tried a new spell.”

“That’s fucking cool.” I felt Edith nod her head against my finger.

Remy shot me a tiny smile. “I got the idea from your list. Do something brave every day. Magically creating a hairstyle is brave as hell.”

She was right. What if she burned it all off? Or it turned to slime? Anything could happen being as unseasoned with magic as we were. But this was Remy we were talking about. The woman had been to space. Magic was something else she’d easily conquer.

Remy slid on some tennis shoes but stopped before leaving the room. “Do you wanna go with me to yoga?”

My chest tightened. Did I?

Try something outside my comfort zone

“Okay. Give me a few to find something to wear.” I stood with my familiar still in my hands and walked over to my dresser. I then set her on top where we had hooked up a mini, heated, stuffed moose for her to snuggle. “Edith, do you wanna go?”

A mixture of colors rolled over her scales as she shouted, “I can’t go out today! My colors aren’t working.”

The wiggly noodle proceeded to twist and twirl into a ball, showing her big belly scales. Her mouth opened wide like she died. I had learned that hognose snakes play dead when in danger. Mine played dead when she didn’t want to do something.

“Oh dear. Looks like my little noodle passed away from the color glitches.” I shook my head and scooped her up, gently placing her inside the open moose belly.

Remy laughed from behind us, and I quickly grabbed a pair of leggings from the drawer. Her familiar, an owl named Jemison, wasn’t dramatic like my Edith and I couldn’t help wondering if they matched our personalities in some way. Surely, I wasn’tthatdramatic.

“I need to go shopping soon,” I announced while walking into the bathroom to get ready. “I have nothing to wear.”

Nope, not dramatic at all.

Piper’s clothes were fine, and I had adjusted to the new style. But even with access to a washer and dryer, they weren’t cutting it. I needed variety and warmer clothes for winter.

Until my shopping trip, soft leggings, an underwire bra, and my oversized sleep shirt tied into a knot at my hip would have to do for today.

I kissed mymiraculously aliveEdith on her snout and left for yoga with Remy.

An hour later I was on the floor on a mat, mirroring my dramatic familiar in a playing dead pose.

I thought yoga was simply touching your toes… and peace.

Wrong. I was dead ass wrong.

“My mind feels calm, and my body feels refreshed. Temperance?” Remy stood and looked down where I was still laying on the mat.

Dead Tempie.

Oh my God, Iwasdramatic. Edith came by it honestly.

“First time?” Remy asked.

“Yeah.” There wasn’t a yoga studio in my little mountain town. So, unless I drove the hour to a bigger city or watched a class online, it wasn’t happening. I was painfully out of shape.

Her hand shot toward me, and I reluctantly accepted her help to get up. “You did well. We should come back tomorrow.”

I scoffed. “Too soon. Let my body chill after turning myself into a pretzel before trying again.”

My body burned in places I didn’t even know existed.

“A Temperance pretzel… sounds fun.” A shiver coasted up my spine at the masculine voice. Remy dropped my hand, and the corner of her lips lifted as she looked at the billionaire behind me.

I slowly spun around to face him and instantly regretted it.
