The prospect brought in what I asked for on her behalf. She snapped on the gloves and came over to my right side to examine the wound. I had aperfectview of her tits, and I would admit I was more than a little—OK, really more than a little—turned on at this point. I reminded myself it wouldn’t do much good to fuck her while my wound from the “line of fire” remained untreated, but sometimes, ass wasn’t easily waited for.
Without saying anything, Brianna dipped the rag in the bowl of water. She put it to my skin and rubbed, delicately cleaning around the wound. She’s fucking beautiful when she’s concentrating. All the lines eased from her face, giving her the youthful glow of someone who enjoys what they do.
And then pain shot up my leg as the skin moved, and it didn’t take long for the cloth to turn a rusty color from the blood. Fuck! That was a damn good way to distract me from whatever thrill I thought I’d get from seeing the next Victoria’s Secret model handle me.
Satisfied, she set the rag down. Next, I saw her pick up the tweezers and a little probing tool. Stepping back up to my leg, Brianna wasted no time getting to work on digging out the bullet. She took the tweezers and prodded around, and I could feel the muscles and skin move under the tools. I hissed as pain laced up my spine.
I was a man that, in front of the other King’s Men, would never show signs of pain. I would sooner die than cry out or beg for help. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t human. Like anyone else who walked this Earth, I bled, felt agony, and could handle it a hell of a lot more when I had a woman like Brianna to take my feelings out on.
“Fuck, woman. Take me out to dinner first before you go in like that.”
“The more you talk, the less inclined I am to take this out of you,” she said.
There was absolutely no humor in her voice.
“I like a woman with a little kick to her,” I said.
Her head snapped up.She has beautiful eyes.Clear blue, like the ocean.Unfortunately, said seductive eyes were not matched by a suggestive glance or an appreciative smile.
She turned back to her work, and I felt as she carefully dug around my thigh for the bullet. I tensed up.
“I like it rough, sweetheart, but this is a little too sadistic for my taste.”
She said nothing, and soon I was looking at the blood-covered bullet as she pulled it out of my leg. The gold casing was mangled from the impact, and Brianna looked triumphant as she held it between the tweezers. It shone in the light of the room, a beacon of hope that maybe I could get the fuck out of this club. And maybe take Brianna with…
But goddamn, this woman had a wall sturdier and longer than the one in China and would not even fucking smile at me, much less banter back.
And besides, let’s be fucking real. I was not a man who needed a woman.
Wanted them, sure. But only for a night.
And now I was figuring out how to include her in my plans?
The fuck is wrong with you, Crush? Get it fucking together.
I shook my head. Caring about other people put you in danger, and I was not about to take a bullet for a woman I just met. The life that Ash had with Callie wasn’t the life for me.Never will be anyway, considering how many people die around me.
“You’re lucky,” she said.
And yet, just because I wasn’t going to walk her down the aisle didn’t mean I couldn’t try to walk her to my bed.
“Fucking lucky to have you here,” I said.
Hitting on her was distracting my brain from the pain. And so were other parts of her anatomy. She turned to the little nightstand, giving me a perfect view of her ass.
“Damn, sweetheart, your—”
“I swear to God, if you make some comment about my ass and quarters, I will put this bullet back in your leg.”
Does this woman ever fucking smile? But she’d gotten her point across loud and clear. Some women, no matter how hard you tried, were never going to give it up.
And apparently, Doctor Fucking Gold over here was one of those women.
Which just makes it all the more enticing to try.
She turned back to her task at the nightstand, prepping bandages as silence fell around us—I was wise enough now to shut the fuck up. I watched her as the muscles beneath her skin moved, her eyes trained.
“You’re damn lucky it missed your artery, otherwise you’d be in big trouble,” she said after working in silence for what felt like a fucking eternity. “How’d this happen anyway?”
