And then I looked down the hall at the sound of some commotion. Coming around a corner was a few bikers, and—
Sonny.
We locked eyes from a distance. It was too far to say anything. But it was enough to say, in silence, “I’m glad you’re here.”
And then I remembered he wasn’t there for me. He was there for his father. I stepped back from the window, held my hands out as if to say “this is it,” and nodded.
Sonny nodded back to me. He knew he could come and get me if needed.
And with that, I made my way downstairs, once more alone, but this time, the darkness in my mind had been replaced by something greater, the two greatest of all emotions.
