“Yeah, it was that good,” I said, giving a warm smile.
“Aww!” Hailey said. “That’s awesome! I know Sam had talked to him about getting his shit together, and I’m glad to hear that seems to be the case so far.”
“Yeah, so far,” I said.
I didn’t say anything else as I plopped on the couch next to Hailey. I wasn’t going to say anything to dispel or discourage the good news. We both needed the knowledge that things were going well, and if we both had to wear rosy goggles until things cleared up in reality, so be it.
The decision to be with Corey in any capacity, whether just out on a Friday or something more, was going to be mine and mine alone. I knew now I couldn’t rely on a neutral party to judge, because Hailey wasn’t one and I didn’t want to open up to anyone else.
But still.
It was odd to realize that I was feeling as good about things as my sister was.
