And after everything that the other girls were experiencing through their boyfriends, I couldn’t help but wonder if I did need Zack, the Black Reaper. I hated the idea of needing security like that, but if people were just going to randomly come up to me and offer cards…

No, no, no, I was being paranoid. I needed to calm down.

“Well, you should take that guy up just because we could use some entertainment,” Katie said.

I laughed a little nervously at that.

“Here’s his card; you can call him.”

“And what, offer to bring him gas when he needs it? I’m good.”

We engaged in a little more conversation before arriving at our cars. We shared a tight hug goodbye, but it did little to calm either of us. Katie was still on edge from everything with the Reapers, and I found myself wondering just what the hell would happen with Zack and that weirdo in the suit and tie.

I bit my lip as I looked down at my phone. I decided to text Zack. I asked him if he’d heard anything about dudes in suits representing the Bandits or anything else.

By the time I got home, Zack hadn’t replied. I figured he was busy, and so I didn’t put much stock into it.

What I did put stock into, however, was this fear that even before our first date, I was already trying to bring back together Zack the person and Zack the Black Reaper. Perhaps it was ultimately an irrelevant question since it wasn’t something I had control over, but if it was, was it something I wanted to separate?

And if so, should I really want to?
