“What? What did you do?” Getting back beside him doesn’t do anything to calm the hammer of my heart against my ribs.

“Needed to get them out of here.” Keenan snickers.

My brows furrow. “So you unhook your monitor? Are you out of your mind?”

“Worked, didn’t it?”

Liam is chuckling, and right then, though I don’t know who he is, I want to kick him in the shin. “Smart thinking,” he says.

Keenan joins in the laughter though he winces. At least his monitors go back to calm and steady, as do my own nerves.

Shaking my head, I say, “You’re insane.”

“I’m going to get going. Though, I do apologize, ladies. I walked out to buy you some lunch and then saw the men in uniform coming. Figured I’d best stay with Keenan and provide backup. It was nice to meet you . . .” Liam says as he looks at me.

“Delilah,” I answer for him, sticking out my hand to give him a firm shake.

He grins and looks right at me while shaking my hand. I tighten my hand around his, shaking a hand like my father always told me to, firm and strong. “Delilah.”

“Lovely to meet you, Delilah. I’m Liam, but I must be on my way.” Liam smirks and releases my hand. He heads out of the hospital room and shuts the door behind him.

“That’s my cousin, Liam,” he tells me as he pulls on my hand until I’m sitting on the bed on his uninjured side. “I did that with the monitors to get rid of the police. I don’t want to talk to them right now. I just want to talk to you.”

“Ouch,” Delaney pipes up. “That’s hurtful, Keenan. Keeva and I are standing right here.”

“I’m not even sorry.” Keenan tries to hide his smile but fails.

Delaney sighs. “You were right about the way he looks at her.”

“Do I want to know what they’re talking about?” Keenan asks me as if they’re not even there.

“Nope,” I answer.

“So you all came here for me?” he asks the room.

“Did you think we’d stay away when you’ve been shot twice?” The outrage in Keeva’s voice is damn near terrifying. That’s a dumb question to ask. “You must’ve bumped your head as well. You should be careful, though, Keenan, you might kill all the brain cells you have left.”

“Shite, you’ve pissed Keeva off.” Delaney giggles, trying to hide her smile

The group of us talk about nothing important for a long time. It’s like none of us have anything to say, but I also don’t want to leave just yet.

I’ll stay here until the nurses force me out, and even then, I’m not leaving London without Keenan.

CHAPTERFOUR

KEENAN

Ihaven’t seen Delilah in two days since she had a work emergency and had to rush back to Belfast, but I’ll be seeing her soon enough. “We just got to the new house. I’d love it if you could come over in a bit. I listen to Delilah’s lovely voice on the other end of the line and close my eyes, breathing a little easier knowing I’m closer to the woman I want to be by my side.

Finally, the day has come where I’ve busted the hell out of this joint. I’ve already gotten off the private jet, and my brother, Eamon, is currently driving us. Liam texted me an address to a home the Mackenzies own in Belfast before I was discharged. He told me how it would be better for my immediate family to move here, considering what happened in London.

At first, I shot down the idea, but after thinking about it, he’s right. Asim shooting me is one thing, but he could easily choose to go after one of my brothers or sisters. The best thing I can do right now is to make sure we’re all protected, and Liam has assured me this estate has the best security, state-of-the-art technology, and there are even underground tunnels if we have to rush out. Then again, I’m sure all of the Mackenzie properties are like this.

“Wait, where are we heading? We should’ve turned back there,” Keeva states, looking out of the passenger side window.

I settle a bit more comfortably in the back seat and clear my throat. “We’re going home.”

Keeva turns and cocks a brow as she looks at me. “Well then, I really must be confused, because we’re not going in the right direction.”
