He just shrugged. "Don't mind me. I'm just talking."

Though I wanted to dig more, I knew Milli wouldn't share anything he didn't want to, so I just decided to let it go. "Hey… The nurse said there were two people with Gio before. Who else was here?"

"Merrick." There was a notable sear to his voice that I didn't dare ask about. "When the nurse came to get us, he left."

"His opinions of me probably haven't improved, have they?" I asked.

Milli laughed in the dark, sardonic way he did when the amount he was displeased matched the amount he was amused. "No."

Gio came striding back into the room with the nurse I'd spoken with before on his heels. She had an entire armful of materials with her now, along with a clipboard with paper attached.

She smiled at me as she came over. "In pain, huh?"

"Yeah."

"Scale of one to ten?" she asked.

I'd been so distracted by my brothers and Gio and Milli that I hadn't really thought about it.

Or realized just how much excruciating pain I was actually in.

"About a nine," I said.

"Oof, okay. Let's get you on some meds, but first." She handed me the clipboard and I noticed the change of contact information forms on them. "Mr. Raines has already filled in all of his info, but you still need to verify all of your info and sign for me. Give it a look over before you get too drowsy and sign at the bottom of the second page."

"Thank you," I said, taking the clipboard from her.

She swapped out my fluid bags and prepped some medicine for me while I looked over my forms. It was so weird seeing Gio's name, but though it actually mademefeel pretty happy, Gio's response was pretty clear. As soon as I was healthy and on my feet again, I'd talk to Lorie about taking over as my emergency contact until further notice. Gio didn't want or need the extra responsibility.

After signing at the bottom of the second page, I handed the clipboard back over and said, "Thank you."

"Of course. Mr. Raines said your address of residence will be changing in the next day or two as well, so as soon as you have the updated address, just call for me or one of the other nurses for some change of address forms."

"Um… Okay?" but I looked at Gio, confused. Did he want me to change my address to his estate? But if so, why didn't he just provide that information right now?

"I'll explain," he assured me. "The meds are going to make her drowsy?" he asked the nurse.

"Yes. She will probably start to feel it in about thirty minutes and it will likely knock her out for a while." She turned and looked at me. "Miss Narzand, my shift will be ending while you're sleeping. I'll check in with Mr. Raines before I go, but the next nurse on shift is Jeffrey. If you need anything, just call him. I'll make sure he gets all your notes."

"Okay. Thank you so much," I said.

"Of course. I'll check in with you once I'm back on the clock tomorrow. The doctor who has been overseeing your care is Dr. Darner. He'll be here all night, so if you have any concerns or questions, just ask Jeff to page him." She walked to the end of my bed and pointed at the clipboard hanging there and exchanged a look between Gio and Milli. "All of that information is here as well, if you need it."

"Thank you," Gio said.

"Of course," she said with a smile. "Have a wonderful night… or…" She glanced at her watch and then chuckled. "Rest of the morning."

With one final smile, she left the room, closing the door behind her and leaving Milli, Gio and I alone. Good grabbed a chair and pulled it over to my side. He sat down next to me and though he gave me a small smile, he looked exhausted.

"I'm sorry for all the added stress," I said.

He shook his head. "This isn't your fault. I'm going to figure out whose it is, though, and I will make them pay."

My heart beat a little faster imagining that, but though I wanted to ask exactly what he had planned, when I opened my mouth to speak, a yawn came out instead.

"You should explain the new address before we lose her," Milli said.

"Yeah." Gio looked at me with a stone serious expression. "Your brothers threatened me and my estate is no longer safe for any of us. While you sleep, I'm going to go secure us something new."
