“And that means we’ve got two threats to deal with right now, and they’re both aimed at my woman.” The thought pisses me off, but I already reached the same conclusion as Scythe.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s the same guy or not because the target remains the same,” Scarecrow adds as he joins us. “You claim her last night?”

“I did.”

Scythe nods. “That’s good. She needs you to protect her, but now the whole club can take that task on.”

“Isn’t the club already doing that?”

“Yeah, well, now it’s official,” Scythe informs me.

“Hell yeah, it is.”

“Then we double down,” Voodoo suggests as he enters the bar, heading straight toward us with a determined gait. “Hunt both of these motherfuckers and remind them why nobody fucks with the Kings.”

“We’ve been too lenient,” Scarecrow agrees.

It’s Scythe’s call. He’s the president.

“Church at three. We’ll put it to vote. Spread the word.”

Good. It’s about time we take charge and handle this.

“I’m having Boomer join us.”

Boomer may not be a King, but he’s King adjacent. As Scythe’s brother and Hangman’s son, he’s got the same blood in his veins. His commitment to the town is just as strong. I trust him like I do any brother in the club.

As I walk back to the room, I hope Cami won’t be bothered by this. Yes, she’s a target, but it’s also about our town.

We’ll handle this because that’s what we do. It’s what the founding families decided, and the Salem witches tasked us with when we signed their treaty.

Nothing can change that now.

Chapter 10 Camille

“We should talk to Granny Jo,” Rex informs me after we shower. His knuckles brush along my jaw before he tilts my chin up, giving him better access to my mouth. “She needs to know about last night.”

At first, I think he means us having sex, but then I shiver as I remember that crazy fan taking me in the middle of the corn maze. “He watched us,” I realize. “He waited for the right moment.”

“I think so, yes,” he confirms.

“He told me it was the only warning you would get from him.”

It’s hard not to cry and let the fear overcome me again.

“Hey,” he murmurs right before he brushes his lips over mine. “We’ll get him. The club won’t let him get away with this.Iwon’t, Cami. This psycho didn’t just fuck with you; he fucked with the Kings. He’ll answer for that.”

I believe Rex, but I also know this guy is dangerous. Worse, he’s not the only one messing with my family. “What about the arsonist?”

“We’ll handle both. I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure you and Granny Jo are both safe.”

That sounds ominous.

“I’ve got church this afternoon. Why don’t we swing by and talk to Granny? We’ll pick up food on the way.”

“Okay,” I agree, nibbling on my lower lip. I’m feeling anxious about the bakery and everything that needs to be done to file the insurance claim. I never expected to come back to Raven’s Crest and stay this long. I never wanted to tumble into bed with Rex.

There are things we haven’t talked about that seem to linger like ghosts swinging in the closet, a constant reminder that thepast is never forgotten. It has a way of pushing into the present, of forcing its ugly truths into the light.
