His lips were so sweet, so soft, his tongue danced, exploring the tip of mine. The world faded away as our bodies tangled. There was nothing but the sound of our fast breathing, and his primal groan rumbling into my mouth.
“I love you,” I whispered between kisses, “and I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for not believing you.”
“You believed what you heard. I need you to always believe what you see when I look at you, what you feel when I touch you,” he breathed against my cheek, “what you know deep in your heart when I whisper I love you.”
I moaned as our mouths clashed again, my body aching with desire. My fingers roamed down his back, urging him closer. One of his hands tucked behind my head, the other cupped my ass. He picked me up effortlessly, pressing me to the wall as my legs straddled his waist. My nipples pebbled against his chest. My core ached and pooled with wetness.
He groaned, his cock pressing hard against me.
I gasped as his hand slipped under my top and cupped my breast.
A throat clearing down the alleyway pulled our lips apart and his hand left my breast, moving instead to the wall to shelter my face. But Karson didn’t step back, he didn’t put me down, he didn’t let go. He kept his darkened gaze brimming with relief and love on mine. “What is it, Josh?” he grunted.
“Monique can’t pick up whoever’s scent was on the rooftop with the rain and wind.”
It was raining, I suddenly realized, pouring down, and we were both soaked.
Reluctantly, Karson lowered me to my feet and stepped back. “Get at least half a dozen in the area and keep searching. They can’t be far away.”
“And the girl from the bar died.”
“Before or after Rodney got to her?” he demanded.
Josh shifted on his feet, looking reluctant to tell him. “She didn’t make it to the hospital.”
Karson sighed, then held out his hand to me. “Come on, let’s get you home.”
“No, I’m not sitting at home while Georgie is out there. I’ll drive the car around the streets and you search the buildings. The more that are looking for her the better.”
My phone rang. I snatched it out of my pocket. “BJ,” I breathed.
“We can place her in Portland, but we can’t get an exact reading. We’ll keep tracking her though and let you know as soon as we can get a read.”
“Why can’t you track her exact location?”
“I don’t know. Ma thinks maybe the cloaking spell we put on you both didn’t break properly because we cloaked you both at the same time.”
If they broke the cloaking, Sarah would know where I was. She would know my every movement. And yet, I didn’t hesitate.
“Break it for me too, then,” I said, exasperated.
Karson frowned as he listened in. I tore my gaze away before he protested.
“You sure?”
“Break it, BJ.” I hung up. “We need to keep looking.”
“I’m not leaving you alone, Amelia, especially when you have just laid yourself out like a calling card.”
“I can stay with her,” Josh offered.
“No offense, Joshua, but your skills are better served in a kitchen than fighting,” Karson stated, not unkindly.
Josh’s mouth twisted. “That’s harsh, but also possibly correct. I’ll keep looking.” His gaze shifted to mine, a storm of emotions running through them. “We will find her,” he said gently, but he looked afraid, so terribly afraid.
“We will find her,” I repeated softly. Like a whispered prayer.
Josh walked back down the alley, his shoulders hunched into the wind as he turned the corner.
