He scrambled to sit up and pulled his shirt back into place. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to be a buzzkill. It’s just…” He reached over and put a hand on my erection, stroking it with his thumb. “I didn’t want to get carried away.”

I exhaled sharply and resisted the urge to buck my hips up into his warm palm, to chase the sensation I wanted so badly. Instead, I put my hand on his and squeezed gently. “She’s back at her mom’s house tomorrow night for the week.”

He smirked and looked at our joined hands. “I can wait that long. If you can.”

My cock ached and I knew I’d be in the shower jerking off the minute he left. Still, I nodded. “I can wait as long as it takes,” I said honestly.

Colin kissed me, telegraphing his desire into the way his lips and tongue moved against mine. “That’s the single sexiest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

I sighed and grinned at him. “I hope it pays off.”

“I can promise you that it will,” he whispered. “But I guess for now, I should get going.”

This time, the pouting sound came from me. “Don’t leave. Stick around. We can watch TV or something. I don’t know. I’m just not… ready to say goodnight.”

Colin nodded and grabbed the remote from the table. “Whatever you say.” A few moments later, we’d settled on a Christmas movie and he was lying on the couch, head in my lap. I stroked his soft, light brown hair as the movie played, loving the simple domesticity of the moment. I liked Colin a lot more than I’d ever expected, especially considering he was the first person I’d dated since my marriage to Beth had fallen apart, and honestly, it terrified me just how much I liked him.

Chapter 14

Colin

I’dbeendisappointedtocut our… activities short the night before, of course, but instead of being cool and collected, I found myself pacing around the house and talking to the cats as I got ready for our date the next night.

Edgar meowed at my feet, while Poe purred loudly from the bed. “I know, I know,” I murmured, pulling on a dark Henley and blue jeans. “How does this look?” Edgar replied with a loud meow and I sighed. “You’re right. Too casual.”

Poe chirped from her place on the bed and I went over to give her head scritches. A moment later, Edgar joined her and I had to give him pets, too. “Maybe you’re right,” I said to her. “Maybe it’s okay to be casual. I’m just going to his house. We’re not exactly going out for a fancy date.”

I peered at myself in the mirror and fussed over my hair for a few moments. “But—” Both cats blinked at me from the bed.

“Right,” I said. “Getting railed within an inch of your life is definitely a casual-attire date. But what if it’smedoing the railing? Does that require a little more dressiness?”

My phone chimed then, startling me out of my spiral. I glanced at it and exhaled sharply when I saw it was Dakota. “Okay. Time to walk next door. You two behave. I’ll see you later.”

I made my way through the house and locked the door behind me as I stepped onto the porch. It was a small town, but I always felt better locking up behind me, a residual from living alone for so long. It only took me a few seconds to cross the yard, navigating around my blow-up and stand-up light figures and around the princess queen that graced Dakota’s front yard, and soon enough I was standing at his front door, knocking.

A moment later, I heard him yell to come in from somewhere in the house. I tentatively stepped inside and shut the door behind me. “Dakota?”

He appeared from his bedroom, wearing a snug blue V-neck and jeans, walking down the hall toward me with a grin on his face. “You look great,” he murmured.

I chuckled and shook my head. “I wasn’t sure what to wear. Are we…” I hooked my thumb toward the front door.

“I was hoping,” he said, taking a slow step into my personal space, “that we’d stay in tonight. I have pizza in the oven for later. You know, after.” His voice was low and soft, a sensual murmur that sent need rocketing through me, lust coiling in the pit of my stomach.

“After?” I smirked. “You’re being presumptuous, aren’t you?”

He shrugged one shoulder. “Is that a no?”

I surged forward and kissed him, feral, deep, and desperate, my hands on either side of his face. He groaned as I did, his hands going to my hips to haul me closer. A moment later, we parted, breathless.

“Fuck,” he muttered. “If I don’t get you into my bedroom right this second, I might self-combust.”

“Wouldn’t want that,” I said softly. “Lead the way.”

He gripped my shirt at the collar and pulled me in for another quick kiss. “Whatever you say.”

I followed him into the bedroom, which was tidy, everything put away. His bed was made, gray sheets peeking out under a heavy blue comforter. “WhateverI say?” I teased.

He bit his lower lip and nodded, eyes dark and pupils wide, his cheeks flushing pink. “It’s been a long time since I’ve been with a man. Hell, anyone,” he said, a quiet confession. “Tell me what you want.” He reached for me, tugging me closer.
