I can’t.

I can’t.

I’m too weak to push him away.

“Dammit, Andi, tell me,” he says as his forehead sinks against mine.

“I can’t,” I whisper.

His hands are instantly on my neck, his mouth opening—trembling—shoulders drawing up like they’re the last bit of restraint he carries. I take hold of his wrists, wondering if he can feel the way my heart is pounding beneath his thumb on my throat.

“Why?” he breathes.

“Because—”

My phone goes off with the alert to let us know the car is waiting out front.

CHAPTER EIGHT - MADDOX

I’VE NEVER HAD a more significant urge to throttle a phone into oblivion as much as I do right now.

“Goddammit,” I snap as I step back and forcefully shove my mask up. I grab my hat and backpack from the table, and when we’re both ready to exit, I yank her into me again. She staggers and falls against my chest, eyes blown up at me.

“This isn’t fucking over,” I tell her.

“Oh, thank fuck,” she breathes.

The little catch in the back of her throat almost has me telling her to cancel this car and call another; however, I don’t.

Because I know I won’t be able to contain myself when I kiss her.

I know I won’t be able to keep my composure enough not to wreck this entire room trying to get her out of these clothes and sliding onto my dick.

I’m fucking feral for this woman.

Deep breaths are all that keep me walking down the hall and out into the sunset behind her.

I didn’t realize it was so late in the day.

That’s perfect.

I have to sit on the opposite side of the car from her just to keep my hands to myself.

When we arrive at the house, Tina is putting out the pumpkins she carved on the front porch.

My restraint is shit at the moment. Nevertheless, I can’tnotspeak to her.

“Hi, Mrs. Matthews,” I say as the car drives off.

“Oh, hi!” She opens her arms and points to the pumpkins. “What do you think? I believe these are my best yet.”

A small smile slides on my lips, though my hands remain in my pockets because I don’t know what the hell else to do with them.

“Where is Reed?” Tina asks.

“He and Zeb went shopping,” Andi says. “Hey, is my computer still on the counter from this morning? Or did you have to move it?”

“I took it up to your room,” Tina replies. “Kamden was helping me with a few things this morning, and he’s so clumsy sometimes.”
