I took a long sip of my coffee, staring at the amused expression on his face. “Do you know what I think?” I asked.
“What?”
“I think you just want to be strapped to me thousands of feet above the earth,” I said.
“I do. Nothing counts that far up,” he agreed.
“Such as…”
His fingers tightened so much into my thigh that they indented in my flesh. I sucked in a sharp breath.
“You’ll have to come with me to find out,” he said. “Do you trust me?”
I considered his question, drinking my coffee and letting it warm my insides. Although, it could have been his touch that had me warm to the point that I felt heat in my ears.
“You really shouldn’t do that,” I managed as his hand cupped just beneath my ass.
“Make me stop,” he dared me.
Our eyes locked as I took another long sip of my coffee, unable to escape his addicting caress. His throat bobbed with his stare, and I think I forgot to breathe. God, that touch. The roughness of his fingers, how large his hands were, and how they pressed into my skin…
I had fucking missed this.
And he knew it.
“I need a shower first,” I blurted, inhaling sharply and pulling away from him before I ended up straddling his lap or sitting on the counter so he could have me for breakfast. I rinsed the cup out and sat it on the drying towel, repeating,‘it’s only lust’ in my head over and over again.
“Think of me,” he called out as I headed toward the bath.
I flipped him off but knew I would.
I half expected him to make his way into the shower with me, and every time I heard a noise, my heart jumped.
I wondered how much longer I would last before complete combustion.
He was waiting for me an hour later, scrolling through his phone in the same spot he’d been before. I had chosen ripped jeans and a basic band tee to keep my style simple since I would be flying through the air. I didn’t know if my stomach was in knots from the thought of skydiving or being with him.
“You never answered my question,” he said as I appeared again in front of him.
“What question?” I asked.
He hovered over me, gaze seeming to devour me whole. “Do you trust me?”
I paused for a beat, my heart stammering as our eyes locked. “Yes.”
CHAPTER THIRTY - CHLOE
LIFE BEFORE GAVIN walked back into it was beginning to feel like a distant memory.
Skydiving had been so much fun that he’d retaken me on Sunday. All that adrenaline, the screaming, the wind, the jump… I was impressed that I hadn’t given in to that desire for him. It had been so intense that I’d made him bring me home immediately after on Sunday so that I didn’t do anything impulsive.
Just lust. Nothing more.
Because that was all it could be.
Anything more was too frightening to consider.
It had already been another week. Gavin had brought food twice to my office, and we’d texted throughout the days like best friends that needed to tell each other everything.
