“Is it really that obvious?” I asked.

“God, yes,” she said. “As someone who has known you before and during your relationship with Tyler, I can say that this is the happiest and most yourself I’ve ever seen you.”

“Gavin is just a friend,” I said.

“You sound disappointed,” she bantered.

I chuckled under my breath as I sat down at my desk. “What did you need?”

“Actually, I came to talk to you about that vineyard you suggested,” she said, sitting in one of the chairs. Her eyes narrowed at the seat, hands moving up and down the fabric. “This is nice,” she said, staring at it. “Is it new?”

“It is. I used your credit card,” I told her.

“As you should,” she replied. “Anyway, Raegan and I did a tour and agreed it was the best venue we’d looked at. So, we asked about dates, and…” Her eyes lifted to mine, and I tilted my head.

“Are you enjoying keeping me in suspense?” I asked.

Ezzie’s smile widened. “We’re getting married September 16th.”

“Holy shit,” I muttered. “That’s so soon. Shit, I need a dress.”

“Yeah, so we’re thinking formal, but not black tie. Open bar. Live band for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and beginning of the reception, and then a DJ for the last hour or so. Lots of dancing. It’ll be a very relaxed ceremony and day. We just want everyone to have fun,” Ezzie said.

“Plus one?” I asked, and Ezzie smirked.

“Why? Thinking of someone other than your fiancé?” she asked, batting her lashes.

“No,” I said, though the idea of going with Gavin to a wedding surrounded by my friends and laughing and dancing with him made my heart swell.

“When can we go shopping again?” I asked.

“When is Lana coming?”

I wiggled my mouse and looked at the calendar on the computer. “Two, almost three weeks. She’s staying the entire week before my wedding.”

And the mention of that wedding seemed to poison my giddy mood.

“Does Tyler know that?” Ezzie asked.

“I booked her a hotel on the water,” I answered. “Did you find a cake yet?”

“Not yet. Why?”

“I don’t know the name of the bakery that Tyler’s mom found, but the tasting we had was the only good thing to happen that entire weekend,” I said. “I’ll find out the name. She will probably text me about roses today.”

“She’s still on about those roses?” Ezzie asked.

I gave her a look and Ezzie grinned.

“Right, well. You have fun with that,” she said as she stood. “Date this weekend with Gavin?”

“Ah… not sure yet,” I said. “He mentioned something about checking an item off my bucket list. I—“ My face faltered at her smirk, and I huffed in response. “It’s not a date.”

“Sounds like it is,” she said. “Have fun with your boyfriend while the fiancé is out of town.”

I glowered terribly at her, and she gave me a teasing wave as she left the room, still laughing to herself upon striding to the elevator.

My phone buzzed, causing my heart to skip, but the name that came up had me sitting back in the seat with disappointment coursing through my veins.
