The dating app, Cupid’s Arrow, was our newest client.
Fuck. Fuck.Fuck.
It continued to be the most popular dating app out there even after the influx of other dating apps trying to emulate their algorithm. Cupid’s Arrow had an advantage over the others, however, that no one knew about.
It was founded by the God of Lust himself.
Eros.
He was parading around as a mortal named Gavin Erosin. As for how long he’d been in this disguise, I wasn’t sure. I hadn’t seen him since that Valentine’s Day party five years ago—a night I thought about more often than I should have.
I didn’t bother reading the remainder of the project description. All I could think about was Gavin. I hadn’t felt that kind of desire, lust, or absolute greed for another person since then. The thought of seeing him again… It knotted and twisted everything in me to the point that I was nauseous.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want to see him—because fuck, I did.
It was that seeing him scared the shit out of me.
I wondered how I would feel now that I was engaged to someone else. I wondered if that need would still be there. It was only one night, but it had been a night of more than just wild sex. We had truly connected, and by the time the sun rose, I could see myself truly being in a relationship with him. I had felt genuine laughter, want, and happiness that night that I hadn’t thought possible with someone with whom I also had an intimate relationship. I’d even opened up with him about my father—something I never did.
We had parted ways and gone back to our normal lives the next day with no way of reaching the other.
I’d often thought about if I’d made a mistake not asking him to change flights the next morning.
“Hello?” Jasmine called. “Earth to Chloe.”
I snapped out of my daze, blinking myself back to reality. “Yeah, sorry, what did you ask?”
“Dani wants to know if you have time to look at the project she’s working on,” Jasmine repeated.
“Ah… Actually—“ I gathered my things and started to stand. “Actually, I need to go talk to Ezzie about the email. I’ll… Tell Dani to email it to me and I’ll look at it today.”
“Are you okay?” Jasmine asked.
“Yeah. I’m fine. I’ll be back after lunch.”
And I left my office without another word.
I had to see Ezzie to find out more details.
As I entered the elevator, I took my phone out and sent a text to Lana.
Make sure you bring vodka to our date tonight. You’ll need it, I sent.
It’s barely nine and you already need vodka?
We have a new client.
Oh? Tell me more.
You use it on the daily.
Toilet paper?
I snorted.No. An app. A dating app.
Three dots strummed at the bottom of my screen for as long as it took me on the elevator and to cross the room to Ezzie’s office. I had just closed the phone when Lana’s text came through, and I tapped my screen to see it.
You shut your fucking mouth right now!
