There was expectancy in his tone, and I avoided his gaze.
“It’s not exactly something I want to discuss over video,” I said. “But when you get back, once all of this is over, I will.”
Gavin surveyed me quietly. “Do you know what I kept thinking about all weekend?” he asked, and I fucking hoped he was changing the subject.
“What?”
“That kiss.”
I wanted to kiss him again for the shift in conversation. My heart swelled, not just with the mention of his lips on mine, but with how he seemed to ease my mind of things that haunted me.
“I don’t think I’ve stopped thinking about it either,” I admitted. “I don’t think I’ve stopped thinking about the last two weeks with you.”
“You say that like it has to end,” he said.
I hugged my blanket tighter and asked, “When do you get back tomorrow?”
“Flight is early in the morning. I should be back around lunch.”
“So, you’re out of the office?”
He nodded. “Why?”
“I have the final design proofs for you,” I said. “Ezzie told me that I needed to get you to sign off, that I had put off getting your final approval for too long now.”
“How long have you had them ready?”
“Almost two weeks,” I admitted.
A smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Did you think I wouldn’t want to see you if I didn’t have a work-related reason to?”
“I think I was covering my ass in case anyone asked,” I said.
“So, once I sign off… I’m no longer allowed to bring you coffee or lunch?”
“Nope.”
“No longer allowed to text you?”
“Nope.”
“What about taking you out on the weekends?”
“Not at all,” I said, hiding my amusement.
“Well, we’re just going to have to come up with another excuse,” he said.
“Really? Like what?”
“That’s up to you,” he said, and butterflies swarmed my stomach.
I sighed as I stared at him, unable to keep the small smile off my face.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked.
“You,” I answered. “And how I wish you were sitting on this couch with me so I could tell you everything.”
“Is that the only reason you want me there? To talk?”
