“I’m ignoring that question because you know damn well how sexy you look tonight,” she said, prompting me to grin wider.

I jerked my chin upward. “What’s the other reason you want to go back downstairs?” I asked, my voice deeper.

Her thighs brushed together like she was desperate for friction, which didn’t help my need for her. Gods, this fucking night. I didn’t know how I was supposed to just let her go at the door later.

“And…” She shifted in her seat, wholly facing me. “I honestly don’t think I should lose that kind of control in front of yourveryoverprotective mother.”

I chuckled under my breath. “What gave that bit away?”

“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the way she drilled me,” she said, though she didn’t seem put off by it.

“She said she would behave,” I said.

Chloe laughed. “She was very nice about it. I imagine she treats all of your girlfriends like that,” she said.

Both of us had spent half of the night forgetting about the ring on her finger, yet with those few words, the memory of what we were crashed upon us like cold water.

She swallowed, clearing her throat, and her eyes downcast briefly to the floor. “Downstairs,” she said quickly.

We said our goodbyes to Ares and Aphrodite, and my mother looked like she was on the verge of tears as I pulled back from hugging her.

“Eros, I need to talk to you,” she said softly.

“Not tonight, Mother,” I said, almost pleading for her to let me go.

“Come home then,” she said. “Please. Before Zeus’s party. I need to talk to you.”

I glanced at Ares, who shrugged, then back to her. “Is everything okay?”

“No. No, I…”

Ares slid his arm around her. “Just come home before then.”

I wasn’t sure what she was being so weird about, though I didn’t have time to get into it then. Chloe was standing at the door waiting on me, and I let Aphrodite go to follow Chloe back downstairs.

“Everything okay?” Chloe asked.

“I’m not sure,” I replied. “She gets weird sometimes.”

“So, about what I said a few minutes ago—“

“It’s fine,” I said, assuring her I knew it was a slip-up. “I know what you meant.”

We didn’t speak again as we made our way to our original seats, and when we arrived, we were greeted with high-fives and shouts of happiness—or, rather, Chloe was. She continued cheering for what was left of the game, though I sat in contemplation and only watched her.

At one point, she took my hat from my head and put it on her own, causing my entire body to erupt in restless desire.

Fuck.

She would have to take it off before I got in any vehicle or elevator with her.

I would lose my fucking mind if she didn’t.

When the final buzzer blew, she and the other fans around us celebrated, and she even bent down to hug me.

After a few minutes of chatting with the others and coming down from the high of the game, Chloe sighed and paused before me. A hum surrounded us with the murmurs of fans leaving. I spread my legs, and she settled herself there, her legs hitting the edge of the seat I was sitting in.

“Tired?” I asked her.
