.

-Sorry, phone died and I was sleeping.

-You all good babe?

-I’m good just tired.

-You sure?

-Yeah, miss you is all.

-It’s weird isn’t it, having someone to miss. I didn’t think I would but I fucking miss you hard.

-I know right it’s crazy

-Little bird, you sound weird.

-81, how do I sound weird we are texting not talking!!!!

-Just the way this is flowing seems different.

-I’m just tired is all

-Ok, little bird. I’m riding back so should be there late tonight.

I text back and it takes her a while to reply. That has the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. As I straddle my bike and kick her to life gripping the handlebars tight, the boys start the van and their bikes. Ghost looks at me twitching his head to the left in a signal to ride out. I hold up my finger for a minute just as she texts me.

-Oh, k.

That is all I got back! Oh, k. Wow. Slamming my phone into the inside pocket of my cut and zipping it, I ride out with my brothers, a sense of dark concern fogging my mind.

Secrets. I fucking hate them. My little bird is hiding something. I can fucking feel it. If Hannah taught me anything, that was to believe in that feeling in my spine and always read between the lines.

We walked back together, stopping at my shop.

“This guy doesn’t give up, does he?” Timberly motions with her head toward Carl.

“Oh, him? I didn’t notice,” I say. I can feel my hands starting to shake as anxiety starts to ripple.

“Jade, I know who he is. We all do. 81 has told us and there are prospects watching him,” she breathes out pulling me into her. “So, don’t do anything stupid,” She hugs me inside her warm arms. She’s like home, when my home is far away. It’s weird to feel this way for people I hardly know.

“Oh,” I say.

“Jade, promise,” she pleads as she pulls back to look at me.

“Promise,” I say knowing that I can’t promise coz I mean to kill the fucker.

“Jade, your eyes say otherwise.”

I push my bangs down over my eyes.

“Well, my eyes lie,” I say
