PROLOGUE
Timing is everything...
You must have been in a place so dark baby because not even I could save you. And god did I try.
So, you see timing is everything this time, although I was too late.
Your black hair fanned out around you like a halo.
Crimson red stained the floor.
My tears fell as I watched them take you away.
My heart stopped that day as demons rose and never fall away.
That was until….well, until now.
It's a new fight.
CHAPTER ONE
Kaden James
Agash of white light broke through the cauldron-black sky as bombs exploded around me. All my mind could think of was the song we used to make love to -Baby I’m Amazed By YoubyTim McGraw. The way your body felt under the silk sheets. It killed me being away from you now, even more than being in this war-torn hell hole watching death and hate fall around me.
“Kaden! Bro! Come on, we gotta move.”
I could hear him, but couldn’t find him. “Jack!” I screamed out over the deafening sound of bullets splintering around us in the smoky darkness. The sound of war rang in my ears. I scanned the area with a torch, hoping the light emitted from it wouldn’t attract attention. Hoping it would blend in with the lights flashing around me.
“Jack where you at?” I shouted again.
“Kaden! Bro! Come on….MOVE!” There was pleading in his voice, as loud as the screaming inside my head.
We were battering and beating our enemy under a sunless sky. Their screams echoed, mixing in with the other sounds of war. Bullets shredded the air in front of me, hitting their marks, ripping through the skin. Berry-red blood sprayed from their wounds and I watched as they stumbled aimlessly towards me before falling to the ground.
I willed my thoughts to turn back to her, to visualizehereyes, so it wasn’t the dying which haunted me. I wasn’t successful.
Hands tightened around me, dragging me backwards. I struggled and screamed. “No! Don’t, take me. Fuck, please don’t take me.”
Her image slipped further from my mind, her smile faded and her hands reached desperately for mine. I strained, trying with all my strength to reach out and link my fingers into hers. To anchor me to her.
“Kaden. Fuck, Bro.” A familiar voice sounded in my ears.
“No, please don't take me from her.” I bellowed.
“Brother, if I don’t take you now, you won't fucking make it.”
I could hear him, feel him, but I couldn't see. Why the fuck couldn't I see? Everything was black, my body felt heavy, like it was stuck in cement. Panic invaded every cell of my body and my mind raced with uncertainty.
“Shhh, It's okay. Calm down before you hurt yourself.” An angelic voice floated over me, warm hands ran up and down – I think it was my arms she was caressing, but I wasn’t sure. I wasn’t fucking sure of anything.
I willed my eyes to open, to take me away from the darkness, but they didn’t. They wouldn't. Why? What the fuck was happening to me? Darkness was all around me, pulling me deeper down into the abyss. Her touch left my skin. No, come back. With you here, I can feel.Without her gentle touch, the darkness came again.
˜*˜
The war was raging inside the walls of my mind. The smell of bombs and gun powder was strong, overwhelming. Dust floated up and swirled around me, clouding the line of my vision.
I stared down at my hands, covered in red, sticky blood. Scanning the area, I saw nothing but death and destruction.
