Shipley ordered the usual tests on someone who was in the jail system so that he’d be able to say nothing about how they were treating him.David complained and bitched about everything that was being done to him, and she tried to ignore it.No wonder Elaine didn’t want to be around him; he was a whiny baby about everything.

“How much blood do you need?It seems like you’re draining me dry.”She told him to shut up.“You don’t have much of a bedside manner, do you.I thought you were supposed to be nice to your patients.”

“You’re not my patient, but a person that I’m making sure doesn’t have any complaint to bitch about later down the line. You will be put on a diet plan too that’s going to keep you healthy.”He whined that he didn’t need to be on a diet.“Well, that’s too bad. What I say goes, and you’re just lucky that I don’t put you on a bland diet that has no taste whatsoever.”

“You’d be mean like that.I want another doctor.”She told him that she was it and that he was lucky that no one else was around to put up with his bullshit.“Well, the least you can do is be nice to me.I’ve had some pretty bad blows to my life of late.Did I tell you that I’m not allowed to talk to the two women in my life who were supposed to be there for me?”

“I know one of them.Elaine is my sister-in-law by marriage.”He asked how she was doing without him around.“Better than you’ll be doing if you don’t shut up and listen to what I’m saying to you.I told you three times that you need to give me a urine sample.”

“I don’t have to pee all that much.”She explained to him again how she didn’t need all that much.“Well, if you’re going to test it, there should be enough for me to give you something.I have just a little bit of dribble, and that’s all.”She wanted to slap the shit out of him again. It had been like this since she’d gotten him in a room at the hospital.

“Does your husband have a mistress?”Shipley told him no, that she was more than enough for him.“If you treat him like you are me, I’m betting that he’d jump at the chance to have one. You’re kind of mean all the time.”

“I have better things to do than to hang around you.”He was quiet for about ten minutes. She’d bet anything that he was trying to figure out what she’d been saying to him.For someone who worked in a school system, he was fairly stupid. She wondered if they gave tests to be able to be around children and decided that he more than likely cheated.“I’m ready for that sample.Give it to me, or I’m going to squeeze it out of you by milking our penis.”

“You can’t do that.”She told him to watch her.“Gees Lousie, you’re mean.I bet if you had any kids, they’d be bullies.”

“No, they wouldn’t because I would never bully them. It’s you I don’t like, and that’s why I’m treating you like I have been. You hurt someone that I love.”He snorted at her and took the sample bottle with him to the bathroom. She wanted to give him instructions again, but it would be a waste of time.He seemed bent on doing things wrong for her.“Hurry up.I don’t have all day to waste on your ass.”

“I’m coming.”She didn’t find anything wrong with him so far, but there were test results that still had to come back. Most of them had already, and he was in good health. It was keeping him that way for the next year that bothered her.He didn’t seem to understand that he had to eat better now that he was in the system. He handed her a nearly full cup of urine when he came out of the bathroom.“I had to strain that much out for you.I don’t want to have to do that again, so make sure you do it right the first time.”

She was going to kill him and save the state a great deal of money on a trial. As she dipped the stick in the urine, she waited for the result while thinking of the number of people who would thank her for killing him.He was nothing but a little shit anyway, so no one would miss him if he suddenly turned up missing. She’d bet that even the police would be thrilled that he was gone.

“Everything is good.”He asked about the urine test and what it was for.“To check to see if you’re diabetic or have any kind of infection. You don’t.So I don’t want to hear about you having issues as soon as you get back to jail.”

“Why are you sending me back?Isn’t there a room that I could be put in for the night?I’d love to be able to watch some television for a night.”She told him no, he was going back to jail.“You’re just mad about having to test me.That’s all.I’m betting that when you get home, you’re going to remember a test you didn’t run, and I’m going to be right back here getting them done.Won’t it save you time just to make sure by letting me stay the night so that in the event that you remember something, I’ll be right here where I can have them ran?”

“No.I didn’t forget anything because I have a list that I have to perform on you.I followed it and did whatever I was required to do.”He looked like a child who had had his favorite toy taken from him.“Straighten up, jack ass, before I have to probe you.”

He put his hands over his dick, and she laughed. It was the most fun she’d had all day with him, and she was glad that he understood that she’d do it too.As soon as he was chained back up, he asked about spending the night again, and she didn’t bother answering him. She’d said no, and that was final. He hated it when she said that to him, she’d noticed and was glad that she’d been able to work it into a conversation with him.The man was an idiot, and she didn’t like that the state was going to be taking care of him for the next year while he waited on his trial. He should have been sent to prison with the rest of the perverts, and that would have been the end of her contact with him.She didn’t like him simply for the reason that he’d hurt Elaine.Shipley thought that was a good enough reason to hate anyone.

As she made her way home, she thought about the tests that she’d run, making sure that she didn’t forget one.Not that she’d go back and redo it, but she didn’t want to have to see him again. Not only was he whiny about things, she thought that he was a little shitter too.

Dusty was home when she got there, and she was glad to see him. When she explained what she’d been doing, he got a kick out of the fact that she’d had to yell at him several times about his attitude.

“He’s worse than a little kid.”He told her that he’d heard that about him from Elaine.“I don’t know how she put up with him at the school when she was there. And with him wanting her to be his mistress, he must have been really bad.”

“He didn’t bring it up with her until the day he beat her up.She’d had no clue that he wanted anything like that from her.”Shipley asked what he’d said to her about it.“Nothing much the day before. He just acted like he normally does when she was there.Friendly and talked to her a little too closely. But she just wrote that off as being like he was.It wasn’t until he was beating her to shit that he made his intentions clear to her.At least that’s what I heard from Knox.”

“I guess he would know.”Shipley kissed Dusty on the mouth and told him that she loved him.“I love you so much that I sometimes wonder if I’m going to bust with it.”

“You are such a romantic.”She snorted at him, and he laughed.“There’s my girl. How about we get in touch with my brothers and see if they want to have dinner tonight? It’s the cook’s night off, so we’d have to go out anyway. It might be fun to get all together.”

“I’d love that.Someplace with a buffet.I was hoping for something that I could get my fill with.”He said that he knew of two places that she might like, and he let her pick while he contacted his family.“How about soon, too.I’m suddenly starving.”

By the time he had contacted his family, she had showered and changed. She didn’t want to smell like David did and was glad that she’d been able to wash some of him off her.Getting dressed in something casual, she was glad that the others were able to meet them there. She was going to have to get herself something small to eat, or she’d never make it.As she was making herself some cheese and crackers, Dusty joined her in the kitchen.

“They’re all for it.”Good, she told him that would be fun for them.“I’ve called ahead to the restaurant to let them know that there would be about fifteen people with the kids who would be coming in.They said that they’d have us a room and would put in some extra platters for us when we arrived.I thought that was nice of them.”

“I do too.We don’t want to make it so that they’ll go out of business because we decided to showup.”He said that they could put a dent in some buffet stuff when they were all hungry.“All right. If you’re ready to go, we can head there.Locke and Alex will be a little late, but they said to start without them. They’re shopping for baby things and have to unload their car before they can go.”

The drive was about twenty minutes, but it seemed longer. She really was hungry and wanted to eat sooner rather than later.Shipley knew that she shouldn’t have skipped lunch while working, but she wanted to get the tests done and over with for David. He’d been too much of a pain in the ass for her to want to linger all that long waiting for the rest of the tests if she’d stopped long enough to eat.Her way, she was only gone an hour rather than the two that it would have normally taken her to get through them all.

She didn’t even wait to sit down, but went right up to the buffet line to get something so she’d not be so starved. There was soup to be had, too, but she wanted something substantial in her belly, and soup wouldn’t cut it.She was glad to see that two others from their party had joined her, and she wasn’t the only one who was starving. There was a lot to be said for buffets, and getting food immediately was one of the best perks she could find.

After her second plate, she was able to slow down a bit. While still hungry, she wasn’t as starved as she’d been.Tasting the food now rather than gulping it down, she was happy when the restaurant refilled most of the trays. She was getting her fourth plate of food when someone brought up Martha. She didn’t mind them talking about her because she wished that she could have gotten to meet the woman. She did a lot for the men in her life, and she wanted to be able to thank her for it.
