Page 69 of Out for the Night

For a life where you’re the cream and they’re the crop

Where you can come out on top

And you won’t be a flop

But you gotta stop.

Because you’re uncool.

It’s when you give your years to a place

But then they run out of space

And they say to your face

That you’re waste

And we don’t want you

Because you’re uncool.

And you watched him in defeat

Your hero had been beat

The man who taught you not to lie, steal, and cheat

Knocked around and kicked to the street

But you can’t help because you’re too weak

And of course, you’re uncool.

And you try

You try to forget what they said

And forget what they did

Forget the names

Forget the games

But they’re stuck in your head

Like the earth holds the dead

When we fall, it’s their voice we hear.

If we stumble, it’s their laughter we fear.

No matter how far we get, they’re always near.

We can’t seem to persevere

Through being uncool.

Cuz it’s who I am.
