“TMI,” Adam said.

“Our families have even met. There’s no reason for anyone to suspect. The only people that knew were Jax and Tanner, and you know neither would say anything.”

“Where’s Jax?” Lex asked.

“He’s with Tanner. The press knows who he is and camped outside his hospital. I think he’s afraid the press will come here. We live in the same building. Can you already imagine the headlines?”

“Is he okay?”

“I haven’t spoken to him yet. After Lior came here, I kinda lost it.”

Lex paced back and forth like he was thinking hard about something. Then he took the photos from Adam’s hand.

He stared at them for a while.

“These are fake.”

“Well, duh. I know,” I said.

“No. I can prove these are fake. Look.” He pointed at a discolored spot on one of the worst photos. “Have you had any massages recently?”

“Yeah, I pulled a muscle playing basketball so I had a massage during one of my lunch breaks. It’s the same place I always go to. They’re great.”

“Is there a chance someone could have taken a photo of you in the massage room?”

I had to think hard about it. It wasn’t a place I usually paid much attention to. The staff were super sweet and professional, but the building was old and needed some renovations. That was all I— “Wait, yes. The windows in the room are covered with a matte film to let the light in but keep privacy. One of them ispeeling off, which isn’t a problem because the window is high up. You’d have to stand on something to look inside.”

“I think someone has been following you,” Lex said. “See this photo? That’s my hand on your back when we grabbed a coffee together last week. Can you see my engagement ring? They clearly got a stock model and did a switch.”

I sat forward with my elbows on my knees. “Someone was following me. Why?”

“Did you say you married Lior so he wouldn’t lose his company?”

“Yeah. His dad made a stipulation in the will.”

“That’s insane,” Adam said.

Lex stopped. “Could it be possible that someone in the company did this to get rid of Lior? They could have made up the fake marriage story and then backed it up with the fake photos.”

Of course. “They don’t know about the fake marriage deal. It’s a coincidence.” I stood up. “I need to talk to Lior.”

“There’s something else,” Lex said. “Noah, is it possible Lior was hurt about the photos and not the company?”

“What do you mean?”

“What if he’s in love with you? Did you tell him the photos were fake?”

I grimaced. “Not exactly. He seemed so sure of them. I mean, if he thinks I’m capable of cheating after everything that’s happened between us, then what hope is there?”

“You’re an idiot,” he said.

“Excuse me?”

“You’re an idiot. If you had stood your ground about the photos, what would have happened?”

“I don’t know.”

“In the face of the evidence, there’s always a chance he’ll lose the company, but he doesn’t have to lose you.”
