Morgan had consoled her as much as he could as he assured her that he would be right as rain in a few days. She had made it a duty to visit him whenever she was done with her lessons and remind him of his promise.
Now, as Morgan motioned for her to come in with his good hand, he smiled at her warmly to show that it was all good news and he had indeed kept his promise to her.
Shadows darkened the doorway and Morgan looked behind his sister to find Grace, Barbara, and Arthur standing there. He rolled his eyes at the group, but he was glad to have people who worried for him and wished for him to be healthy and strong again.
A smirk graced his lips as the physician raised his hands in mild panic as his family descended on him, shooting questions before he could answer any.
“Now, we must all remain calm. I have accessed His Grace and he is recovering quite speedily. In no time he will be ready to carry on with his daily activities,” the physician rushed out before he could be bombarded with any more questions.
“What? But he cannot carry on so soon. His shoulder is not fully healed. He could hurt himself again,” Grace said, reaching for the physician.
“Yes, that is true. That is why I have instructed His Grace to make certain that he refrains from activities that may cause a strain to his injured shoulder.”
“Thank you,” Morgan smiled at the man, dismissing him before they began to pester him with even more questions.
“I am relieved that you will be all right after all, brother,” Barbara said as she walked towards him and wrapped her arms tentatively around him, minding his shoulders as she had learned.
“Yes. We all are. Nonetheless, you must heed the instructions of the physician.” Morgan rolled his eyes but smiled when he saw the fondness in his grandmother’s gaze.
He was certain that she must have been very worried all this time. Her way of showing it had been to nag at him until he chose to rest and he was happy to have her.
“Thank you, grandmother. I will be sure to take the warnings of the physician into account.”
Morgan glared at Arthur, who was watching on with silent amusement.
Grace clapped her hands together, drawing all eyes towards her.
“You do not seem much like a knight with this wound after rescuing a damsel in distress,” Grace said suddenly after she had regarded him silently for a bit, causing the others to laugh at his expense.
“Ah but I believe I look every bit like one, grandmother.” He grinned when the laughter subsided.
Morgan was glad to see the happy face around him. Everyone seemed more relaxed now that the physician had confirmed what he had known all along.
He turned to Selina. He wondered if she felt guilty for bringing him hurt. He hoped she did not. She was his family and it brought him great happiness to see that she was safe.
His heart beat faster when she stared at him with beautiful green eyes that seemed to know his innermost thoughts. He felt his body relax when she smiled at him, noting the sly smile on the lips of his grandmother and friend.
“How about some delicious tea, Your Grace?” Arthur blurted out suddenly, pulling Morgan away from the trance Selina’s smile had sent him into.
“Ah, yes. That seems like a wonderful idea. The sunroom does look appealing to sit in and sip tea at this time of day,” the dowager agreed as she began to head for the door.
“Wait, but Arthur you don’t like tea,” Morgan said in confusion. “Arthur?”
He called after his friend but the man only increased his pace by way of response.
Morgan looked at his grandmother and shrugged, wincing when his shoulder hurt suddenly. Arthur had always been weird, so he supposed it was not strange that the man suddenly wanted tea.
“Now, Barbara, why don’t you come have tea with Arthur and I?” she asked Barbara who was still sitting by Morgan her arm wrapped around his other arm.
“Oh, I do not think I want tea. I want to stay here with Morgan,” she said.
“Barbara, come along now. You do not want Arthur to have his tea alone, do you?” she asked again, reaching for her granddaughter’s hand as she began to tug her towards the door.
“But he will be with you so he won’t be drinking alone,” she protested strongly as she followed along with her grandmother.
“Yes, he will. And now you will be with us too. The more the merrier after all.”
Morgan turned to Selina as the voices of his grandmother and sister began to drift off until he could no longer hear them.
