She dozed off at some point and when she awoke, they were pulling into a long driveway with a very big house at the end. Rather too much money the guy had but Allie didn't care. It just showed her that her brother really didn't know her at all. The last thing she was worried about was if the guy had money or not. After being with Justice, Allie couldn’t have cared less who this guy was. It didn't matter how the fates thought she was supposed to be with him, Allie knew that it was Justice all the way for her.
There was a moment though where she looked at the house and tried to imagine herself living there. It was bigger than anything she had grown up in. Even now that her brother had such high status, it would be quite some time before they had those kinds of assets. Allie was thinking to herself, who was this guy?
They got out and Allie did her best to focus. There was anticipation running through her, but it wasn't the same as it was with Justice. She wasn't looking forward to it, there wasn't any happiness attached, it was something else altogether.
Allie thought that there would be a maid or somebody who would open the door, but it was the homeowner himself, tanned, extra white teeth and the prettiest blue eyes that she had ever seen. There was also this strange quality about him that she couldn't quite put her finger on. Allie didn't know what it was, but there was something different about this guy. It wasn't a bad thing; he had the biggest grin when he saw her. For whatever reason, Allie immediately liked him. That was a problem, but it wasn't the sort of like that a woman would feel for her husband. It was something else, more like a friend. Allie knew then and there that she and Bishop were going to be good friends.
“So, you are the woman I’m to marry?” Bishop asked with a grin.
Allie immediately agreed with the sentiment, and he said that he was happy to hear it. Allie thought that she was too. She had this feeling about Bishop and when she looked to Ben, she realized that he didn’t seem to understand what was going on at all. Allie wondered if she did. Was she wrong about Bishop? If she wasn’t, how was she supposed to make that work exactly?
He kissed her hand and there was no spark between them. Allie could feel her body relaxing. She didn’t know how it would all work out, but she had faith that it would. Allie was glad it was Bishop. Her brother had chosen well. She still worried about so many things, but Allie started to wonder and wish if it could all actually work out. She really wanted to believe that it could.
Chapter 15
Justice
Justice woke up that morning and decided that he was going to keep his distance from Allie. It was obviously the only thing he could do, because she was not being as careful as he would have liked. Or, he wasn't able to be as careful as he should have been. That was probably more accurate. So, he had every intention to completely ignore her that day. It was just what had to happen.
The problem was, when they got to her place, she wasn't even there. After asking around for a moment because Justice was afraid that they had lost her, he was told that she had gone to meet with her intended. That was probably when it all started to sink in. Her intended. She was supposed to get mated in the next couple of weeks, and he had filled her with his child. How was that supposed to work out? He knew that there was no way she could go off and be without him. They had bonded together. Justice couldn't lose her now. So how was that supposed to be fixed? Honestly, he had no clue, and not one idea came to mind.
Jeff’s sigh was a good sign, because Justice was tired of hanging around. Justice tried not to show his emotions, but like several times before, he failed miserably.
“It's probably for the best, Justice. You know that she's going to get you killed, right?”
Justice didn't want to talk about it. He knew that Jeff was just looking out for him like a good friend would, but that didn't mean that he wanted to hear it, whether it was true or not. The truth was that Justice was in love with Allie and he had already messed up worse than he could ever get out of. Her brother would kill him if he ever found out, and Allie was going to start showing with his kid. The only way that it would work, was for her to get married before it was found out and then what? Justice was supposed to let another man raise his kid? That didn’t sound like a plan he was down with at all. Justice couldn't imagine it; it hurt to even think about it.
“It's not like that, Jeff. I was trying to tell you, it's not like that. She's not like that.”
“How long have we known each other?” Jeff asked me.
Justice knew where it was going, but he couldn't stop it. He had to answer, “A long time, Jeff. Why?”
“You know why. You are going to get yourself killed. That girl is not worth it. I don't care what she's like, she is not worth it.”
It sounded like something that Justice would have said himself, not but a few months ago. He felt something for her, but now, the willingness that he had to throw away everything was not the same.
“I don't know, Jeff, sometimes they are.”
Jeff looked at him like he was an idiot and maybe Justice was. The more he thought about losing Allie, it cut into him like a knife. The worst part was, what was the other option? There was nothing that Justice could do about it. She was gone, maybe for good, and Justice could not figure out a way to wrap his head around it. What was he supposed to do? What happened if she fell for the man she was supposed to marry? Obviously, he was going to be a well-to-do kind of guy. A man that Justice would probably not have a chance against. He liked to think that he had a chance with Allie, when he deep down knew that he didn't.
“You're talking crazy, Justice. You know that, right? There's no way that you're supposed to get killed by the Alpha because you won't leave his damn sister alone. Please tell me that you guys haven't been together,” Jeff asked, though his expression already said what he thought of that.
He didn't know if he was supposed to answer or not. Justice felt like he had already lied enough. It was pretty obvious what they had done. Did he care what Jeff thought? Justice didn’t want to be judged, and he knew he would be. Why then, did he want to shout from the rooftops that she was his and he really liked her more than anyone he had ever been with before?
Justice finally just shrugged his shoulders. It didn't matter one way or another what Jeff thought. It didn't matter what anybody thought. He’d had a chance with the most beautiful woman that he had ever known and Justice had took it. That was something hard to regret. What man would turn that away? Justice couldn’t. He knew that the situation he was in was only going to get worse. There was no other way for it to go, but at the same time, what was he supposed to do? He wasn't going to give her up. There was no way in hell that Justice was going to give her up if he didn’t have to. All of his thoughts and schemes were now on the fact that he didn’t let her go.
“It's fine, Jeff. You're worried about nothing,” Justice insisted.
Jeff didn't want to hear that. He scoffed, gave Justice a dirty look and neither one of them was able to really explain how the other felt. The two friends had never had something like this between them, but now as they avoided each other's eyes and had nothing to say to each other, Justice worried about how that was all going to end. Why did it feel like he was going to have to choose between his best friend and the woman that he had fallen for? Why would that decision be so hard?
***
That evening, Justice had to get out of his head, so he went to one of the many parties that was going on in his clan. Almost every single night when the weather was decent, there was a large outside party. Justice usually ignored such events and steered clear of them. Tonight though, he needed the distraction, so he found himself going to one of the houses that was having it.
The music was loud as he drove up, loud enough that it vibrated his insides. His brain was quickly thinking of other things and as far as Justice was concerned, that's all that he needed. He just needed some good vibes, and Allie would be one of the last things on his mind.
It worked for a while, he was able to completely forget about Allie, but it didn't last very long. It only worked when the music was playing and it was on loud enough to feel it. As soon as it wasn't actively being blasted, Justice started thinking about her. When a girl started coming up to him trying to flirt, he realized that what he was doing wasn't helping anything at all.
