She reached through the bars to claw him. "I'll kill you."
Luke folded his arms. "Well, now. That just made everything for you better, didn't it?"
Aaron pulled her back. "Forget him. Don't make it worse." He looked at Luke. "I suppose we'll be in this prison for some time."
"No, actually not. Once Hallowed Vale is back on its feet with a leader, you will be transported back to them to face your crimes. Your stay here is only permanent."
Aaron's face turned dark red. "You wouldn't dare turn us over to those people."
"I've already given my word, and unlike you, my word means something. Enjoy your stay."
Kayleigh lunged for the bars again. "You'll regret this. You'll regret ever losing your opportunity with me."
"I highly doubt that."
Her nose turned up in a sneer. "You enjoy that baby, you bastard. Because when I get out of here, it's dead. I'll see to it that your child doesn't make it to its first birthday."
Luke moved so fast that Kayleigh didn't have a chance to leap back. He grabbed her by the hair and yanked her face to the bars. "You can threaten me, or you can threaten Sarah, but if you ever mention my child again, I'll kill you myself. You are single handedly the most obnoxious, detestable, and least desirable woman I have ever had the misfortune to meet." He shoved her backwards, and she fell to the floor in a heap. "I'm done with all three of you. I would highly advise that you three are done with me and my family also."
They were still protesting as he walked away. He stopped at the guard office on his way out. "No one is to unlock those cells. Nobody except me." The guards all acknowledged his order before he left.
Sarah flew into his arms when he got back to his chambers. Dr. Seneel was sitting in the living room and greeted him as he entered. Luke buried his face in Sarah's hair. "Are you okay?"
"I am. But Dr. Seneel seems to think that I'm a little further along than I thought."
"As in how far?"
"Like I only have a couple weeks left rather than two months."
Dr. Seneel chuckled. "Sometimes pregnancy is a mysterious thing." He headed out the door. "If you need me, all you have to do is call."
Luke stared at Sarah after he left. "So, what does this mean?"
"It means that we're going to be parents sooner than expected. It means I need to get to Colorado and get everything situated there."
"It means we need to get married."
Sarah froze and stared at him. "Are you serious?"
"I asked you to marry me, and we never set a date. I think we need to do so before the baby gets here."
"I only need a few days to get things settled at the ranch. I need to find out what Ma and the boys want to do."
Luke kissed her. "We need to focus on what we want. I understand you want to be close to your family, but that may not be possible if they don't want to move back here."
She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close. "I just want to be with you. If they don't move, then I go visit. But my final answer is that I'm here, with you, permanently."
Luke squeezed her tight. "Then I say we get married next week."
"Next week it is."
It did his heart good to see how giddy she was. They may not know what the future held, but at least it would be together.
Luke had Larisa gather everyone together so they could break the news. They ended up in the dining room, and Luke stood up.
"I just want to say that my wife-to-be has agreed to marry me next week."
Colton was the first to congratulate them. "My baby sister is in good hands. And trust me, that means a lot coming from me."
