They had also spent plenty of time covering for each other. He suddenly hoped that she didn't spill her guts to him because it wasn't a burden he wanted to carry.

"There's nothing to tell yet, really. I wasn't kidding when I said I had to work it out."

"But the baby is a dragon?" Being direct was usually the best approach with his stubborn sister.

"Yes, it is."

"How did you find another dragon? We haven't exactly been overrun with other shifters around here."

"Some things you just know are right. And that's as far as I'm going. I don't know what's going to happen, and I'm not sucking anyone else into the drama until I have some answers of my own." She gave him a sad smile. "Not even you."

He gestured his surrender with his hands. "Fair enough. I'm here if you need me. I just want to help." He pointed at her. "Although, if you know it's right, then you should be able to tell him that you're pregnant."

She ignored his comment. "You are helping, with all this damned bread. I can't wait til this luncheon is over."

"I can't wait til the whole damned circus leaves." He paused. "Well, most of it." He never wanted Joey to leave.

Sarah caught his hesitation instantly. "Most of it?"

"The guy that owns the outfit is a real asshole. The guys that work for him think they're some kind of thugs, and act like it."

"So, who can stay?"

"The competitors are nice. Good people." He knew he was busted but he was going to play it out.

"Nope. Huh-uh. There's something you're not telling me."

"If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black." He put his hands on the table and blew out his cheeks. "Joey. Her name is Joey. And she's the most beautiful creature I've ever seen."

Sarah folded her arms. "Go on."

He told her everything he knew about Joey Jet Engine. "You'll meet her if you come to the luncheon."

She grinned. "If it means all this bread gets out of my house, I wouldn't miss it for the world." She stood and patted him on the back. "Especially now." She moved to check on the rolls in the oven.

"I'll introduce you." He grabbed a tray of wrapped goods. "I'm going to run these out to the tent to make room for more. I'll be back in a few."

The tent had been erected close to the blue barn and all the chairs and tables had been set in place for the luncheon. So far the weather was holding, but they didn't want to risk getting rained out.

Joey was in the training ring as he headed back to Sarah's. He turned and headed toward her and stood by the fence watching her on Journey. They raced across the paddock and moved together like they were one. Their motion was almost fluid, and he was positive he had never seen anything so beautiful. Drake committed every movement to memory. His heart beat harder and he laughed at himself. He felt like he was in high school again with his first crush.

She caught sight of him and waved. His pulse quickened even more as she cantered over to him. She wiped a sweaty sheen from her forehead as Journey stopped in front of him. "Hey, cowboy."

He nodded at her. "You're looking good out there."

"Thanks. I just wanted to run him through a few manoeuvres before the show tonight. Keep him limber and put his head in the game after travelling."

"You're going to be great."

"I hope so. The purse is a nice one." She rubbed her face. "Hey, I was wondering--"

"Joey!" came a gruff voice behind her. A burly gangster-style man hurried toward her. Drake instantly identified him as a Percy employee.

"What do you want, Calvin?"

"You need to practice, not socialize. Get back to it."

"We were just about done," she protested. "And I don't need you telling me what I need to be doing."
