"I think I need to take a ride."
He smirked. "Can I be the elephant?"
She kissed him quiet. "For the rest of my life."
Chapter Twenty Five: To the Future
Valerie Blanchette Kenway
The engine of a large truck woke Valerie early in the morning a week later. She rolled over and punched the pillow as she tried to regain her sleep status. There were always horse trailers coming in and out, and Tyson had told her that they had to deliver some new trail horses to Active Assets.
Unfortunately, the truck also woke Londyn and Mitchell, who both stumbled into her room and crawled up into her bed. "You little munchkins. It's not time to get up yet." She glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost eight. She groaned. It actually was about time to rise and shine.
"Are we moving to our new house today?" Londyn asked with a yawn.
"Not yet, but soon. Ms. Vinia needs this cabin for new guests." They were moving into Tyson's house as Vinia had predicted, and Valerie was more than anxious to get the move done. She hated being separated from him.
They laid there and snuggled for a bit; Mitchell fell back to sleep, cuddled up against his sister. Valerie smiled as she watched them. Neither of them had asked about their father, and she didn't see where his absence was going to make much of a difference in their lives. He had made everyone miserable, and they were better off without him.
When they finally got out of bed, the kids ran off to get their clothes on while Valerie dressed. She was headed for the kitchen when someone knocked on the door.
She opened it to find Sarah standing there with a huge smile. "Good Morning."
"Good Morning," Valerie responded a little suspiciously. "What's going on?"
"I made pancakes. And I think you guys should come over and help me eat them."
Valerie had a feeling that the visit wasn't all about pancakes. "And?"
Sarah gestured with her hands. "And, what?"
"You just randomly made pancakes?"
"Well, I cook for the guests, and yes, I made pancakes."
The kids went shooting by. "Come on, Mom. Pancakes."
Sarah stepped aside to let Valerie out the door. "See. The kids know."
On the way toward Sarah's cabin, Valerie heard a bunch of commotion from out by the barn. "What's going on over there?"
"Oh, they probably got some horses that aren't as tame as the others. We can go see after we eat."
The whole situation had something about it that didn't sit comfortably with Valerie, but a few minutes later, she forgot about it as she was fork deep in a stack of delicious food. "These are amazing. I don't know what you do differently with your pancakes, but they are so much better than mine."
Londyn snorted. "That's because she's a baker and you're not. But she's going to teach me someday and then I'll tell you."
Sarah burst out laughing. "Good to know that you're going to give away my trade secrets."
They had just finished cleaning up when Tyson came in. "You guys done?"
Valerie frowned. "You knew she was going to feed us?"
"Who do you think put her up to it?'
Valerie turned to look at Sarah, who just shrugged with an innocent smile.
"What are you doing, Ty?"
