Broch promised that they wouldn’t. Everything was changing, but the two of them would not. He wouldn’t let it happen. He’d waited all that time to be with her. Broch wasn’t going to let anything get in their way.

Chapter 34

Christin

Broch wasn’t going to let the marriage thing go and he finally got the answer out of her that he wanted. Christin thought that saying yes would be just another answer. She didn’t realize that it was going to immediately change her life.

The next morning, she got up and Broch was gone. She didn’t like it but Christin was getting used to him taking off like he did. He was busy all the time and Christin knew that he had important business to deal with. He ran a billion-dollar company, as well as a clan of wolf shifters. Everyone was looking to him for answers and Christin didn’t want to make things harder on him. She instead wanted to be his sanctuary.

Her parents popped in before she could get up and out for the day. It was a lazy day by the height of the sun in the sky. She usually got up earlier and her parents were surprised to see her still in bed. Her mother asked first if she was sick.

“No, just tired I guess. You would think that staying in a hole in the ground as long as I did, that I would have gotten lots of sleep. Couldn’t sleep though. I guess a person needs light and dark.”

Eve started to sob and Christin stopped. She needed to not say such things, but she couldn’t help herself. It was just an observation after all, one that she couldn’t help but say.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. Where is William?”

“He is out playing with the other kids. I wish we could all get along like them. They don’t see the differences. They just have fun together.”

Christin was glad that he was finding people to play with and he was settling in well. Broch was going to get him a room set up and Christin was ready for the next chapter. Her son had been living with a lot of upheaval in his life and now he was finally going to get to just be a kid. That made Christin happier than any of the rest of it. She just wanted him to have a good life.

Her mom settled down and she was able to find out what they had come for. They said that they were leaving right off and Christin felt like it was too early. She had just gotten them back and the last thing she wanted to do was have them leave again. Christin missed them, though she knew that they had been there almost a month.

“You can’t leave so soon!”

Eve smiled and told her daughter that they would be back soon enough.

“Well, we are getting married, Mom. I need you here. He wants to do it soon.”

“I know, it’s actually going to be tonight. Their ceremonies are always aligned with the moon. It’s a full one tonight, so it is the best time. It is supposed to bless your marriage.”

Christin smiled. “If my marriage is with Broch, it’s already blessed. I didn’t know it was going to be so soon though.”

Christin was trying not to freak out. She knew it was happening, but not that very day. Broch really wasn’t joking when he said that he wanted them to get married as soon as possible. She thought that she would have months to get her mind around marrying at all. Now, it felt like she had no time at all.

“That’s not all, Christin. We need to talk about something else. It’s really important and I don’t want to…”

“Oh, Richard, do you really have to do this now?”

Christin wanted to know what they were talking about. She was in the room, but they were talking over her head. Christin hated that. She really did. She just wanted to know, but once her father started talking, Christin wanted to take it all back. It wasn’t at all what she wanted to hear. The very idea of it scared her and made everything more complicated.

“You want me to rule the Sinclair Clan?”

“Yes, I do. I have enjoyed my time away and now that Phillip is gone, I want to step away again. I have done it for decades. It’s time for me to let the next generation do it. I am an old man, Christin.”

Christin knew that there was no other. She didn’t have brothers and she could understand why he didn’t want it to transfer to her husband. Christin had married who was put in front of her, and that had been a disaster. She knew that Broch would be different, but could she really lead? Could they lead both clans? She saw how busy Broch was and Christin wanted there to be time for William. She hadn’t seen him in so long and even before that, his whole life really, Phillip had regulated everything between them. She was ready to just be his mom, but how could she do that if she had the clan to worry about too?

“That’s a lot, Dad. I mean, I didn’t know that you were going to want to walk away.”

“I want to and you know that I will stay around for a while, help you out. You will make a board, now that the elders are gone, and they can help you rule. I don’t trust anyone else.”

Christin sighed. Of course he would say something like that, and she wouldn’t be able to deny his request. Who else was going to do it?

“Does Broch know?”

Richard agreed. “We told him when he asked for your hand in marriage. He wanted my blessing. It was sentimental and I thought he should know that you will have a full plate too.”

“What did he say?”
