She agreed and laid back in his arms. Christin needed to get to William, but knowing he was right down the hall and safe, made her able to stay with Broch, for just a few more moments.

Chapter 30

Broch

Broch wasn’t usually the nervous sort, but after speaking to his second and getting his reaction about his current thought process, Broch was worried that Richard would feel the same way. He knew that he wouldn’t be deterred, but he also saw how close the father and daughter were. He didn’t want to get in the middle of that, which meant that he needed to get Richard’s blessing. It sounded easy in theory, but Richard was a dominating man.

“Good to see you, Broch.”

They were packing up and that sent alarm through Broch. Were they leaving? Already?

“Where are you guys going?”

“Back home.”

“Well, your mansion is gone. Sorry about that, but…”

“No, our real home. It is not there in the mansion, hasn’t been for a long time. After we moved into the house, it was different and it took some getting used to, but fifty rooms have its drawbacks too.”

“I was hoping you would stay just a little bit longer. We still have so much to discuss.”

“Our kind are behind you, Broch, if you ever need us. There is nothing to explain. What you have done for me, cannot be repaid.”

That was all well and good, but it meant nothing to Broch. He wasn’t interested in payback; he was interested in his daughter’s hand in marriage. He wanted to make her his mate and soon. There was going to be an announcement of their clans coming together to work together, so Broch thought it was the right time for another announcement and mating to happen. He just needed Richard to tell him that he was okay with it. Broch wanted to believe that the old man was going to agree and be pleased about it, but like Leonard, Broch never really knew what was in someone’s heart.

“I was actually going to ask you about something else.”

“Oh?”

“Well, you know that me and your daughter have been getting close.”

“Yes, Eve is tickled about it.”

He didn’t say that he was, and Broch wondered if he was reading it wrong or not. Did that mean that he wasn’t happy about the two of them together?

Broch didn’t think that any father wanted to see their daughter with any man, but Broch had wanted to believe that he would like him at least, because they were meant to be together.

“Have you thought about what that is going to be like for you two? It is going to be a lot of grief coming at you from all angles.”

Broch agreed, but he wasn’t worried about that. He was worried about Christin being upset that her father didn’t like her husband. That was it.

“I don’t really care about all of that.”

“I hear some rumblings from your own people.”

Broch shrugged. “You can never make everyone happy. They got their revenge and we ended up taking out a really bad man. It’s hard to feel guilty about it.”

“You know that the optics are everything. My people felt abandoned when Phillip came into power. You don’t want them to feel like they are being taken over by my kind.”

“It won’t be that way. I will marry her.”

“I thought you were asking for her hand?”

Broch chuckled and agreed that was what he was doing. It also made him realize that no matter what Richard or anyone else said, the two of them were going to get married. He couldn’t fight fate, even if he wanted to.

“I was, am, but I want you to also know how determined I am.”

“Have you even talked to Christin about it? You are making a huge assumption that she will say yes.”
