“He is the one who killed Danika most likely. He sent me to go get my son from her house, that’s how well I knew about her, and when I got there, she was dead. Since I was the only one that went into the house according to security cameras, I was the one who did it. He did it and then pinned it on me. I can’t leave my son with him.”
Broch pressed his lips together. He was starting to see the bigger picture. He also realized that he believed her. Maybe he shouldn’t have, but he did. It was far easier to believe her scenario than the one that she had been convicted of.
“That sounds like a lot.”
Christin agreed and she drank the rest of her glass. Her eyes were glazed over, and Broch knew that some of it was because of the alcohol, but some of it was raw emotion that was pouring out of her at an alarming rate. Whatever it was, Broch was even more certain that he was supposed to help her somehow.
“It’s not. It’s just getting back to William. He’s eleven now. I haven’t seen him in over six months. Phillip brought him to my sentencing, but that was just to mess with my head, you know?”
“Your hubby sounds like a dream.”
Christin agreed. “It was a family obligation.”
“Does your family hate you?”
Christin giggled and the sound made Broch look twice. The woman was downright gorgeous when she laughed.
“You would think so, but no. I suppose they still love me.”
“I am going to help you, Christin.”
“Are you now? You’re just going to swoop in and make it all better?”
Broch agreed that he was, though he still didn’t know how. He was bound and determined that certain things were going to happen. He just had to figure out how, then Christin would have what she wanted, and he would have what he wanted. Broch might have said that he didn’t have his eyes on a prize, but that would have been a lie. He did. And Christin was the prize.
Chapter 12
Christin
Whether Broch was going to be able to help her with all of her problems or not, was yet to be seen. Christin worried about how she was going to have a chance to get William back without Phillip knowing about it. He would find out about it obviously, but Christin wanted to make sure that she was long gone and wouldn’t be found when he did.
Broch ran a billion-dollar company, and she was happy to have some time to herself. The tension between the two of them was insane, as well as the tension inside of her. It was easier to think when Broch wasn’t around. He was sweet, and he had a kindness that was hard to beat, but he was also a huge distraction, one that she couldn’t afford at the moment.
Christin needed to do a little bit of recon. She went to her old house and drove past a couple of times. Broch had been nice enough to loan her one of his many vehicles. He was really helping her without many questions and while she was still suspicious of his motives, it made the act of finding William very easy.
He was outside, playing with his friends. Christin knew that she was going to have to take him away from everything that he knew. She almost felt guilty for the upheaval that he was going to feel in leaving, because no matter how bad a person Phillip was, he was a good father. Christin knew that the two titles weren’t exclusive. Christin just wished that she could find a better way. She would have to take him and go into hiding.
A huge part of her wanted to snatch him up in front of all of his friends, in front of his father’s house and never look back. Christin knew that it wasn’t the best way. Even if she thought that she could get away with it, she still wouldn’t have done it because Christin knew that the man who was on the park bench a few yards down was actually there watching William. She wanted to drive past again, get her fill of the son who was growing up without her, but Christin knew better. She had to wait, bide her time and then everything was going to be as it should be.

She went back every day for three days, getting his schedule down. It had changed a little because he was at a different school, but by the end of the week, she’d found a small time and place where she could get him and hopefully take off.
Christin had a plan formulating in her mind, but it was just a lot to take on. She wondered if he had started shifting yet. That would have made everything so much easier. Whatever Christin was going to do, she knew that she had to get the help of other people. She wasn’t going to be able to do it alone and get away clean. Christin knew that she needed to enlist Broch to help her, but how could she get him to do that? He would be getting in way over his head, and she wasn’t prepared to give him all the information that he would need.
She was trying to figure out the conversation, what she was and wasn’t going to say. Christin was sure that there was a lot to be said, but she wasn’t sure how to get it out. What could she tell him? What would he believe? Christin wanted to come clean so badly, say what she knew and what she was, just so that it would finally be honesty between them, but that wasn’t as easy as it sounded. It wasn’t to her anyway.
Christin didn’t have a chance to really think too much about it because Broch was there when she got there. Usually, he worked late and she spent much of her night alone, but that evening, he was waiting up for her with some takeout and a bottle of wine.
“You look like you are celebrating. What’s the occasion?”
“I just had a really good day at work. I am getting close to finding out who is sabotaging my company and my men. Then, I will be able to take action and end it. I’m so close.”
Christin took the glass that was offered to her. He wanted to know how her day had been, though Christin wondered if he wanted to know where she had been. People came and went all day in the massive house, but Christin felt like her movements were under scrutiny. They probably were. She was a stranger after all, a convicted murderer. It was a wonder that he trusted her at all.
“I’m glad that your conquest is close. We have that in common. I think I will drink to both of us succeeding.”
“What is it that you want?”
