Harold agreed. He could ask for no more. The witches seemed to know everything, and he wanted that. He wanted to know what in the world was going on. It felt bigger than him. Much bigger.

“And what about her. Do you want her to know as well?”

It was the way that the witch asked, with a smirk on her face. What was it that he was about to decide? For a moment he wanted to say no, but of course he couldn’t say that.

Harold had to wonder, if he could have, would he have?

“Of course, she needs to know. She just found out some very disturbing news and we're trying to figure out how it is possible. And, how did she not know about it?”

“Well, I suppose she didn't know about it because she was not told.”

Harold glared at the other two women that were tittering, but they weren’t bothered and didn’t stop and he gave him a dirty look. Harold had warned Sarah about her reaction and how she responded to the witches’ news, but he just wasn't able to do it himself. They were messing with him, and his temper was bubbling up.

“Why, though? Why did she just now shift for the first time?”

“She shifted once before when she was born, just like every other shifter.”

Harold was getting frustrated by the second.

Sarah asked then, “What is it that I need to know?”

The old witch smiled and looked at Sarah like she was the smartest one in the room and the old woman was happy to finally have some intelligence.

“That is the right question, my dear. You are part of a curse that was put on your family many years ago.”

Sarah looked like she was going to be sick, and Harold was the one that had to keep getting the information. Sarah's one bold question was apparently all she had the stomach for at the moment.

“Why was her family cursed?”

“Why is any family cursed?”

“A pissed off witch?”

The witch smiled at Harold. “No, it was nothing like that. People don't get cursed because they piss off a witch, though that does happen on occasion. What happens more often than not is love. Unrequited love, love that isn't returned. That is what a curse is all about.”

“So, who cursed Sarah?”

Harold was afraid that the love that the witch was talking about was someone else’s love for Sarah. He didn't even like the idea of it. Sarah was his. He was willing to fight for her if he had to.

“Don't worry about it, pussy cat. It wasn’t her love that was the problem, it was her mother’s love.”

That got Sarah's attention and her head snapped over.

“What about my mother?”

“Your mother loved a shifter. It is frowned upon in most circles, even more so back then.”

“So, my father is a shifter?”

“Yes, and he is a very reputable and powerful one at that. When it was found out that he had a half-breed offspring, your family was cursed. Your father was made to never see your mother again. I'm pretty sure that his mind was wiped of Carolyn’s existence, of your existence. But now, all of that may have changed because the curse had been broken. It will all be restored as it was supposed to be.”

“And how was the curse broken?”

The witch looked over at Harold and smiled. “She mated with her true mate. There was a lot done to keep you two apart, but Carolyn, she's a sneaky one. She went through great trials to make sure that her daughter met you. She wanted the curse lifted, not just for Sarah, but for herself as well. She can go back to her soul mate as well.”

Sarah was shaking her head. She had a scared look on her face, and it was the one that Harold was worried about. It was showing a little betrayal.

“Is that all I need to know?”
