As she got more animated, he pulled her back up against him and played with her nipples, while the other hand played with her clit. The whole time, his length sawed in and out of her legs, rubbing on her sensitive core.

He was dying to enter her. But he was trying his best to make excuses, especially when it was just an old way that said that they had to wait. If he was going to be shunned anyway, what did it matter?

His hips slowed, and he released her and only held onto her hips. He was still pumping in and out of her legs, still trying to figure out a way to make it happen, what he needed more than anything else.

After a minute, she grabbed the bit that was sticking out and started to rub on the head. He groaned and she asked if it felt good. He agreed and started to move back in and out. Her hand was there to greet him and Nathan wasn’t far behind her. He called out, biting her shoulder and making her come again.

“Damn.” She giggled and he slid out from between her thighs.

“Did that feel good?”

“So good.”

“Will you stay in your bed tonight?”

She frowned and agreed, if not a little reluctant. “Fine, but I make no promises for tomorrow. We will have to strike another deal, if you still won’t have me and make me yours.”

He kissed her hard. “I wasn’t joking. You’re already mine, Laurel. It’s just a matter of time until I can have you in all ways. Trust me when I tell you, I will take it until you can’t walk for a while. Just wait. Soon, Laurel.”

Nathan could have sworn he saw her shiver.

Chapter 15

Laurel was nervous about the bar. It was supposedly a place where she could find about her mother because she had owned the place. She didn’t know what to think. Her mother’s name was Star and they were going to ask the bartender what he remembered.

When they got there, the place was locked up and Nathan banged on the door. As soon as they heard movement in the bar, he tensed up next to her.

“What’s wrong?”

“There is a shifter in there.”

“Yea?”

“A couple, or one really powerful one. The amount of magic coming through the door is intense.”

She didn’t know what to think. The door opened, and a pair of eyes stared back at her. They were too much like her own and Laurel wanted to see the rest of the person. She wasn’t there to ask questions. She was there to get answers and the polite way hadn’t been cutting it thus far. She was learning quickly that maybe she just needed to move a little faster and stop apologizing. She had learned that much from her companion.

“Can I help you?”

“I think you can. Did you lose a child twenty-two years ago?”

Nathan gave her a dirty look and she could see it in her peripheral vision, but she didn't care. Nathan knew how to beat around the bush for twenty minutes with each question and she did not want to go through that. She just wanted answers, and the quicker they got them, the better.

The door opened wide and revealed the person behind it. Laurel was shocked at the resemblance but surprised even more so by the woman’s words.

“Oh stars in heaven, tell me that you're Laurel? Of course, they might have changed your name. I didn’t think of that.”

“Well, I am Laurel. Who are you?”

Laurel finally got a look at the woman with the eyes the same color and shape as hers. She was looking at her face maybe a few years from now, when it was weathered a little bit and she had seen more of life.

“I am your mother.”

“My mother?” Laurel didn't know what to think. She was starting to sway under feet, but Nathan was there to put a strengthening hand around her middle.

Laurel searched the woman’s face. She was trying to feel some sort of connection to her, but she didn't. Not yet. She still had a lot of questions that needed to be answered, and mainly she wanted to know why she was left to be raised by other people. Why was she left on the doorstep so long ago? With humans no less.

Laurel started to ask those questions that were burning inside of her, but Star asked them to come in instead of answering any of them. She wouldn’t meet Laurel’s eyes and that made her suspicious. All of it did. How could she knock on a random door and then talk about her ‘mother’? It made no sense to her and Laurel was trying to catch up. She had figured that this would end like the other tips had ended, with nothing.
