That made her pout. “I don’t want you to keep your control. I want you to take me, Nathan. I know that there is more to it. I’ve waited a long time and you’re the one that I want. I want to be with you.”
“And that’s why you were here all day, naked?”
His mind couldn’t imagine, and he groaned inwardly. Crap.
“No, I think I am so sensitive that the clothes bother me. I started getting turned on while I was getting dressed. I don’t know what you did to me last night. It felt good and all, but now it is almost painful how ready I am. I think you should put me out of my misery.”
She pulled the blanket back and he sucked in a breath. His ravenous eyes took in all of her curves and the way her body called to him. Her arms were out and beckoned him forward.
“You have got to cover up, Laurel. We need to get you sorted out, find out where you’re from, so that we can get to the good part.”
“Why? Why does there have to be so many rules? You want me, I can see it in your pants, and I want you. Why can’t that be enough?”
Laurel sat up a little bit, her hands at her side, her chest out, back curved, seduction on her face. He turned away with the last bit of strength that he had and there was nothing else he could do but leave the room.
“Get dressed, Laurel. Meet me out in the living room.”
“Can’t you take care of me first, like before? Please?”
He had already shut the door and he was thankful for that. Nathan didn’t see anything good coming from that. He wouldn’t be able to stop at her pleasure. He’d want his own. The night before had killed him, just now was the tombstone. He was done.
Laurel was calling his name with a promise on her tongue, but he was practically running to the living room, where he couldn’t hear her siren words.
A time later, she was dressed, grumpy and ready to do what he asked.
He’d said that he was going to take her to find answers, but really he had no clue where they were going to go.
“Ready?”
He agreed. Moving had to be better than staying there and not touching her.

They were not technically going in circles, but pretty close to it. Nathan had some leads from Vincent’s investigators, but the first three had proved to be a waste of time.
It was getting late and they were away from his house. He wanted to tell her that they had to keep going. Nathan couldn’t imagine staying the night with her beside him and before he could think about it, he suggested they fly home.
“Do you really want to go all the way back tonight?”
“Not really, but do you have any better options?”
“Well, I mean, I guess I can ride you for a while. I really do like when we do it.”
He groaned and she was trying her best not to laugh. Nathan was finding it hard to be around her, and he was sure now that Laurel knew what was going through his mind. She knew that he was losing it and Laurel was pushing it more. Why, he didn’t know.
“Fine, you want to get a hotel and start on the last tip in the morning?”
“Yeah, that would be good. I’m tired.”
Nathan grimaced because he knew it was going to be a hell of a night. Laurel had been flirting with him, flashing him bits of her flesh even, and it was going to be more of the same. Did he really trust her in a dark room, overnight? No, just about as much as he trusted himself, which was understandably not that much.
“You have to promise me that you will chill on the seduction thing you have going on.”
She put her hand to her chest and gasped. “I can’t believe that you would think that of me. You know that I don’t have any experience with that sort of thing.”
“You may not, but you’re catching on a bit too quickly for my taste.”
That made her giggle and it made Nathan’s heart sink. Why was she so damn tempting when he knew he had to do it the right way? Laurel wasn’t to be just his lover, she was to be his mate. To do that, things had to happen first, before he could partake in what he wanted most.
