“Thomas?”
“Yeah, Thomas.”
“Yeah, okay, I know who he is. What about him? He worked for my dad up until the moment he died. Pretty much was his second in command.”
“Well, he is in Australia and he has one hell of a tale to tell you.”
“I haven't seen him in several years. What is he doing in Australia and why do I need to go there?”
Nathan looked like he was ready to burst at the seams and Vincent just finally asked him to say it. He was trying not to get frustrated at Nathan, but it was happening quickly.
“Your brother. You know, the one you thought was killed by your uncle Dale?”
Vincent gritted his teeth and agreed that he knew what he was talking about. His brother Stephen had been killed, along with his father and mother. That was a moment that he was never going to be able to forget.
“What about it?”
“Apparently, according to Thomas, your brother is alive and well. He has been in Australia with him all these years.”
The skeptical side of Vincent knew that there was little to no way that it could even be possible. They had buried bodies. He had buried the bodies of his father and mother and brother. How could that have not been real? He’d pretty much seemed damn real to him.
“Why do you believe that to be true?”
“Well, because of Thomas. I think you should go down there and see for yourself. I'm not saying that this is real, I'm just saying that it could be. Wouldn't it be worth it to go find out?”
Vincent gave him a dirty look.
“I will go check it out, Nathan, but I doubt that anything will come of it. Are you sure that you're not just trying to get rid of me?”
“Not hardly. You know that things run better when you're here. This is something you need to check out for yourself.”
Vincent didn't say any more, but they both knew that he was going to go. How could he not?
Chapter 10
Vincent had been restless the last two days thinking about Stephen. “Is Stephen still alive? Or it is some dirty plan of Balthazar?” His mind kept thinking as he stared at the beautiful painting of his family, while sitting on the couch in the living room.
Suddenly, his mobile chimed and it was George, his uncle. “Hey, George,” Vincent said in low voice.
“Hey, Vincent. I hope you are doing great.” Vincent was already missing his uncle. But he didn’t call him as he wanted to be sure about the news that Stephen was alive.
“I wanted to tell you something. I hope you are not in the middle of something.”
“Yes, is everything okay, George? Has Balthazar attacked someone again? I promise I will kill him this time.” Balthazar had attacked Sarai and the kids a few months back, when Alistair was not at home. Balthazarhad thought Sarai was a human until she turned into a pixie and taught him a lesson.
“You sound upset. But, I have something to tell you that will cheer you up. I met Stephen, your older brother. I’m so happy that he is still alive. You should come and see him.”
“Are you sure, George? Did you really meet him? I can’t believe it.”
“Yes, my son. He’s waiting for you.” They hung up.
That means Nathan was right.
***
It didn’t take Vincent long to get to Colorado. He took the next flight that he could find there, and it worked out perfectly because he was pulling in when it was morning time. He was tired, of course, but that meant that he didn't have to wait around to see his brother, supposedly, but even though that was the whole reason he was going, he couldn't even believe it in his own mind. There was no way that Vincent was going to believe that his brother was still alive, unless he saw him for himself. How long had it been?
Stephen was a couple years older than Vincent and he had looked up to him most of his life. They looked quite similar, same dark eyes, skin, and hair. They both looked remarkably like their father. That's what everybody had said and convinced them of. Stephen had not liked that too much. He did not want to have a mini copycat running around after him, and they had only started to get along when Vincent had gotten older, and Stephen didn't see him as a child anymore.
