“Let’s go,” she shouted. “Now! Search the guards for the keys to the chains!”

Two men walked over and used some keys to release him. He collapsed and was aware of the two men holding him up. His leg was exploding in pain and agony, and his mind was completely numbed. His vision was foggy and all he could see was the beautiful woman with blonde hair fighting one of the guards.

It was the last image he saw before the pain overtook him and he blacked out.

Chapter 4

Kai woke up gasping, his body screaming in pain. His senses felt overwhelmed and the noise from his surroundings was loud, almost crippling him. He sat up, his body instantly exploding in pure pain and burning agony.

“Sir!” a voice resonated through his ears so loudly he screamed. He turned to see a woman standing there and he pushed her away, just to get the noise to stop.

“Restrain him!” a voice shouted, and Kai felt multiple pairs of hands trying to hold him down. He screamed and thrashed, even as his body burned with pain. He felt as if a liquid fire was being forced through his blood.

“Down! Tie him!” the voices repeatedly shouted, aggravating Kai even more. He pulled and struggled, his body slowly getting weaker and weaker.

“No!” he heard a melodious voice ring. “Let me handle him!”

A second later, he felt a soft pair of hands on his chests. The feeling was so familiar and comforting that he instantly stopped moving.

“Kai,” the melodious voice said. “You are safe. You are in a hospital. I know your senses are overloaded and everything is causing you pain. I just need you to trust me and lay back, okay? Please? Trust me?”

“Lilly?” Kai whispered as a pair of hazel eyes came into focus.

“Just get some sleep, Kai. It will all be better,” she said. There was something so soothing and comforting about the hands that held him and the melodious voice that he relaxed. He laid back and closed his eyes and sleep instantly took over.

When he woke up the next time, his senses had finally returned to normal. His body still blistered with pain, but it was more bearable. He opened his eyes to find himself in a hospital of sorts. It wasn’t exactly a hospital, but he could see many men and women being tended to.

“You are awake,” a voice said, and he looked up to see the beautiful woman.

“Lilly?” he asked.

“Hello, Kai,” she said, smiling.

“Where did you go?” Kai asked, shaking his head. For years he had looked for her. He had searched for her repeatedly, refusing to give up. And here she was, in front of his eyes, still as beautiful as ever.

“You are very badly injured,” Lilly said. “I am afraid that the knee is going to take days to heal. Thankfully, we got the stake out before the acid caused too much damage to your tissue. Not only do you have very severe injuries all over your body. I am afraid that you will be in recovery for days.”

“Where did you go?” Kai repeated, still unable to accept that she was standing in front of him. It must be a hallucination or some fairy pretending to be Lilly. He couldn’t believe he finally found her after so many years.

“I don’t think you have a right to ask me that question,” she whispered, her eyes hard and filled with anger. Kai gazed at her, feeling the same attraction that he had felt toward her all those years ago. His body craved to touch her, to hold her, and to love her. He remembered the way those lips felt under his and the way her curves pressed against him.

He opened his mouth to speak when the door of the room was rudely thrown open. A drunk man walked in, stumbling as he did. Kai noticed Lilly clenching her fists before turning around.

“Lilly,” the man slurred. “Where have you been? I have been looking for you.”

“I have been in the recovery room,” Lilly said, firmly. “Doing my job.”

“Give me some money, darling,” the man said, putting his hands around Lilly’s waist. Kai instantly sat up, ignoring his body's cries of pain. The anger he felt crushed his heart. He was furious at this man for touching Lilly like that.

“I am not giving you any money,” Lilly said, pushing him away. “You will waste it all on gambling.”

“Come on,” the man slurred. “Just a little?”

“Kevin,” Lilly said through clenched teeth. “I am working right now.”

“You bitch!” Kevin shouted. “How dare you? How fucking dare you?”

Kevin grabbed Lilly’s face roughly, forcing her to look at him. Kai’s reaction was instant. He lunged at the man, roaring as he did. He collapsed on the floor with the man under his body, his legs preventing him from getting up.
